ursdny to about 2000 people l gCly over half of which was throes It seems that he t like his crowd from the following remarks from the Wiriche Democrat It is belied d by many who saw Judge Taft and heard his speechato Station Thursdav that he was thoroughly disgusted with the complexion of the crowd that greeted him and that he man sted his disgust by the express 1f on his counten ance and tlio character of he made fitexpression was displeasing aml his speech was disappointing 8 even to his friendsThe M first citizen of Winchester to grasp his hand us he alighted from his specibtrain was Harrison alias Greasy and it is clnimedjby some that the last to bid him God speed on his journey through the South was Henry Grutb This last fact is disputed by some and we do not vouch for its accuracy but as Henry Grub swus one of Judge Tafts most ardent supporters in the county convention here we assume that was at the station to pay his ropects to his choice for the Presidency But why should Judge Caft have been dis with the complexion of his crowd tfitfwa not half so bad as the crowd that marched through Main Street on the day of the Republican county con vention and that was a typical Southern Republican crowd Public Speakings Lion B A Orutcher who was billed to speak here last Satur day night was not informed of the appointment time to come but our countyman the Hon John D Atkinson came down and filled the appointment- The house was filled and tinning over a third of the people having to stand many ladies were present Mr Atkinson made a11ne speech and he was loudly cheered and most fre quently It was one of the best speeches made in Clay Oity dur ing the campaign and was as well received y On the same night a republi can speaking Was also had at the colored poster which is tacked up over town The poster says vote for Langley and that he will have passed a bill in Congress to build turnpikes in Eastern Kentucky This is about as rojten an elec tioneqrin scheme as Langley fixed up when ho is said to have told an old darkie in this county that the darkio must vote for him being ashe was jin old un ion soldier Langley said ho was having formed a bill to pension nil colored veterans 100 F lfUllthrThis old darkie tad Moro reasoning than Langley and said he couldnt SEe how a bill could pen sion negroes more than whites took the insult offered by Lang ly and is now going to votefor Davis 4 Every intelligent voter in the district knows that thocoqrties alone can build either roads or turnpikes and that this govern ment puts money on no kind of improvements that it does not control like it does the larger rivers Such literature has no weight with nil thinking people rteTalk about tank for the protection of labor The government is doing all possible to Hood this country with cheap European labor laid are sending agents there to get hundreds of thousands moro of the scums of Europe in order to hold Ameri nun labor down If this Repub Bean government was working to the best interestatif the laboring iuan of this country it would a shutout such undesirable immi grants in favor of homolabor The Democrats have been trying to get a bill of this kind terough Congress but fails owing to the strong Republican opposition Our Congressman Hopkins came very near having a scrap up nt Washington because he strongly advocated the shutting out of cheap European labor in the per sons of low down citizenship The Republican party is doing all in its power to keep labor down and the products of labor up Many tell us they really dont understand the politicial sitija tion and that they will for this reason vote as they have been voting for years either the Dem ocratic or Republican ticket The cause may be perplexing to some but the effect is force fully evident to every laboring and common man woman and child in the United States Everything you have to buy to eat and wear is higher than ever known before except in war times and there is less labor to preform than ever before gaud at smaller prices Still this country hits doubled in wealth the past ten years where has it gone We havent got our share have you dear reader and your neighbor got yours If you have here is an excuse to vote for TaftF otherwise vote for Bryan The Times thinks less of Dem ocrats when they fall into the Republican habit of grafting and favoring trust domination than any body and want them punished heavier than tiny one But it seems that Win Randolhp Hearst the New YorkMnillion aire editor has got in bnd with Gov Haskell of Oklahoma Because of the formers exposure of the hitters alleged aid to the Oil trust Gov Haskeli has not only denied the charge but has sued Hearst for 000000 alleged dun ages in tanking such false state ments The broad statement mode also by President Roose velt must be accounted for says Gov Haskell If innocent and we believe he is we say hurrah for Haskell Elsewhere in this issue will be found the announcement of B A Orutcher who asks the in dorsement of the Democratic party ftcfthe reelection of Com monwcufths Attorney in this district Mr Oruthers official career has been all that the peo pIe can hope to receiverut the liaitdslof He has been verLsiwLour indeed in his prosecution of the offenders of the law Mr Orutcher has been tried and found equal to every emergency and will likely have no opposition Langley stands in fears and trembling and has written a per sonal letter to every Republican in the district urging them to come out and vote for him He says fiyo voters his front each precinct will lose hinr therace We will see to it that ho loses no Jess than fiftyin Clay Oity and onehundrell in Powell county ThoJDemocrats are not going to stay at home this time There has not yet been nor can
