Sevehteeth Century in the year 1026 MA first trust whicH is today the best hackboiie of the Republican party woe formed It was the slave trade trust composed of Yankee Dutch which sold negroes to Southern plant ore The planters saw the evil and the Souther cokinies pro4 tested againstflthe traffic The ministers preahced against and some of the coloniesfiaBsed laws fYitIsh planted in the New England States said it must go ont and took from the colonies the right of self government in this par ticular so the trust went on in the slave trade This trust caus ed the civil war of 1860 in which was caused so many lives to be 1 lost so many homes to be dei Btroyed and so many milljon dol Jars to be wasted and so many millions to be even spent now on f pensions for the old soldiers In 1801 the slave trust must bq i bursted that the many pieces of it 7might redound to the welfare of other trusts and that these slavqs must keep them In power by first guarding thepojlsnnd de of priving white voters of theirsuf frage and latter by allowing tlii 1111tthe trusts in power byP keeping the Republican party in power And it was demonstrated right here in Clay Oity Tuesday when the boyish lads of Ethiopian col torpoured into the veiling booth armed with nflidavita which alt 1 lowed them to vote This in all the natiorfhs in Clay City is a lpne the cause of the result in this national election Tuesday Both sidep know it The Times is not ashamed of honorable de feat but we have a preference in the class of our victors Tho millions of dollars helped won derfully to carry doubtful states but this would have amounted to nothing without the loyal Ethio pian vote We would rather be defeatedwithout them than vic torious with them The campaign just passed has been a pleasure to most of us who have participated There has been but little nefarious tricks performed by either side and there are on sores to heal From this contest we enter into amore civil battle but one that promises greater opportunities for strife That of a county Dem ocratic primary election which must be held sonic time during the following year It is hoped Democrats all over the county will be conservative and not stir tip nny more animos ity than possible that there may be no discords in the party at the next November election as there were none in the national race this year The Election is over and we are glad of it but not proud of the result Some of our best freinds are Republicans and we are best friends to some Republi cans We never fight only in politics so we can fight the hard er when it comes to that The strife is ended for four more years and we must make the best of it possible The Times can possibly live as well under Re publican rule as Democratic but our sympathy extends to the laboring man who is compelled to pay so much tribute to the trusts with no hopes for relief The inheritance tax passed by the state Legislature in 1000 and reel fitly lield alid by the court of Appeals is a good law on the excepttweitance should be put to 5000 00 audio percent for the excess hut this can be modified later The law provides that where any one is devised an estate execcd ing
