negro students together with the whites The Kings Daughters yesterday sent a sewing machine and other things to the Orphans Home recently establrshedatClay City Winchester Democrat Nyt rI 4 Xrr Dont Spit on the Sidewalks The following from the Sun Sentinel is as applicable to Clay City as it is to Winchester The filthy habit of spitting on sidewalks has become a great nuisance in our little city since wo put in concrete sidewalks This ugly habit probably is not indulged in any more now than it used to be but a large gob of tobacco juice on the nice clean sidewalks shows up plainer and is a filthy sight Not only this but it is a great annoyance to the ladies whose dresses necces sarily sweep it up This habit is a great disease spreader when dust from the sidewalks is taken into the lungs Let everybody cut out this spitting on the sidewalks and you will surely get a vote of thanks from the ladies The prevailing price for tur keys seems to be but 10 cents this year The crop is not very large but will bring in a nice little sum of money to the far mers wives Mr and Mrs Marion Williams are the proud parents ofn new born baby girl which arrived at their home Wednesday Novem ber 4th +Not rrers It must not be understood that the habit of buying a cat in a bag and that from a stranger is confined to firmer folk Far from it- People who owe their immedi ate living to the community who draw their salary from the public treasuryschool teachers public officers and even professional i men who should at least be loyal to the hand that feeds them and even local property own ers whose wealth depends upon the general business prosperity of the town pass up the home merchant and pay their good money for thee pcfurewl1esaf ifhe pgtalb S more than this the retail merchants in many side is highly gratified while the losing side is correspondingly disappointed But the feelings of both are soon modified by the thought of the next election and the knowledge that the whirligig of time may make the defeated of today the victor of tomorrow And apart from this once the fever of excitement has disap peared and people calmly consider the verdict there iq the general recognition that all parties are earnest for thejiiations good however much they may differ from one another in political principles and mothods The number of states that vot ed one way on national issues and another way on state issues shows that people are becoming more independent of party control The increasing size of this vote adds to the uncertainty and anx iety with which party managers carry on a campaign Perhaps the Presidentelect might save himeqlf a lotof worry if he would let the newspapers choose his cabinet for him They are evidently willing to do it but the trouble is that no two lists
