This mill was located ten miles from the mouth of the stream men tioned which empties into the Xentucky at a point near Irvine and has not been in operation for moro than forty years but was formerly a very prosperous concern and turned out an ex cellent quality ofpiguPi I- roni Kelly the late noted Congressman from the iron center of Pennsylvania visited the mill and the surrounding ore districts about twenty years since and pronounced the ore to the finest qu lityTho mill suspended op erations because of the vast dim culty vexperiencodin floating the ore out the Kentucky to market There were only five locks in the river at that time and they were never used The only ore brought outin the shape of pig was float ed out on barges and the bottom of the Kentucky is strewn with the contents of t- t J Notice 1 0f Primary Election At a meeting of the Democratic Committee of Ppwell coun ty Kentucky pursuant to due notice at Stanton Ky on the 7th day of December 1008 there was present the following duly elected qualified and acting Precinct Committeemen Robt Kennon L Faulkner J M Buchanan and T G More head by proxy to J M Buchanan L Loving W B Congloton It was ordered that for the purpose of nominating Demo cratic Candidates for the several County offices to be voted for at the election to be held November 1909 a primary election be held in the county of Powell SATURDAY FEBRUARY 6th Igo that a poll bo opened in each of the several precincts of said couty ty from 0 AM until 4 P M on said date at which all persons residing in said precincts and who are legal voters and known Democrats shall have a right to vote That the officers to con duct said primary election shall be two Judges a Sheriff and a Clerk for each of the precincts in said County but that the Clerk shall have no vote on any question that may arise All persons who may desire to become candidates before said primary shall in writing so notify the Chairman of this Commit tee on or before the 7th day of January 1000 and that the persons giving such written notice shall be permitted to have their names printed on the ballots to be used in said election That this Committee shall meet at Stanton Ky on the 11th day of January lOOn for the purpose of selecting the officers to conduct said primary election and to arrange for the supplying of the ballots to be used in qaid election That in order to defray the expense of said primary election each person who may on or before the 7th day of January 1000 notify the Chairman of this Committee of his purpose to become a candidate before said primary election shall on or before the 7th day of January 1909 deposit with the Chairman of this Com mittee the sum of 10 00 to be used in defraying of the expenses incident to the said primary
