county have no excuse for having poor land except that the fact has not been proven to them We suggest that every one of our farmers sow this year on some poor land at least one or two a cres It takes only one bushel to the acre so the cost of seed is very light When the pods begin gin to turn yellow the vines should be turned under Some writers say that in doing this we add from ten to fifteen that after the people had tired of hearing tariff discussed the astute Mr Aldrich would quietly introduce the schedules prepared by the trusts for enactment into law Mr Aldrich has verified our prediction his schedules have hen introduced and are certain of adoption Senator Aldrich dominates the senate as Uncle Joe rules the house When an important cor poration or trust measure is be fore the senate it is the duty of this sagacious old senator to steer a majority of the senatori al sheep into the trust corral and see that they b a hwhen the vote is taken The successful manner in which Aldrich hay handled the trusts tariff inter ests shows conclusively that a small coterie of men dominate legislation and that the great ma jority in both the senate and house are simply barnacles on the United States treasury Under the present capitalist regime it would be far more eco nomical to turn the lawmaking over to the trusts and the su preme court and dispense with the useless horde of careful this year in the character of men they nominate for office The list of independent voters has grown so large that it is no longer possible for a party though a majority party to nominate any sort of then label them with the party device and expect them to win the personality of the candidate is more closely inspected than over before The independent voters hold the Democratic party to a stricter accountability in that respect than they do the Repub lican party The average inde pendent voter in nine cases out of ten will vote for a worse Repub lican before he will for a bad Democrat While the principle upon which he acts is a compliment to the Democratic party it works hard upon election days He expects more of the Demo cratic party in Kentucky than he does of the Republican party and as a matter of fact he has a right to do so for the Democratic par ty as a whole in this State has all Republicangood citizenship It is conse quently subjected to the severest test Its candidates are more searchingly examined and its policies more generally discussed It suffers for the slightest error it frequently suffers when it has committed no error If the independent voter bolter mugwump- or other nondescript suffragist finds the slightest real or imagi iJlUffault with the Democratic party he usually shuts his eyes and seeks his solace m voting the Republican ticket And yet however much we may condemn his judgment and good sense we must yet admit the significance of his action and seek the remedy Success at the polls is not necessarily a clean bill of health suffi cient to pass quarantine to a can didate or to a party The first thing a party or a candidate should do before going to the polls is to deserve success Frankfort State Journal It is now medby some Re
