Louisville Commercial 7i u Home and Farm 75 Corporation Tax The real elfect of the TaftAl dricli substitute for the income tax is shown by Senator Borah of Idaho progressive Republican Note Mr Borahs words carefully and you will under stand why Aldrich thought up away to beat the income tax The Aldrich plan to tax net earnings of corporations when compared to an income tax is only another way to shift the burden of the tax to the coil Burner and producer at the bot torn If a mass income is 50 000 and the low tells him he must pay 2 per cent on that in come to the Government there is no way for him to shift that tax But if it is a corporation that has an income of 50000 and the Government comes along and puts a 2 per cent tax qi those earnings the corporatioi turns around and adds thetnx to the price of the goods it sellst f or takes enough from the wag s of its men to makeup the dif ference That is the situation in a nutshell Many friends of a genuine in t come tax believe that President Taft has made a very serious blunder One Republican said Mr Taft is on record as fa voring a straightout income tax He has said in speeches and ofli cial messages that he considered it unnecessary to amend the con stitution in order to have a per fectly sound atfd legal income tax And now as soon as there is danger that tin income tax might pass Congress Mr Taft rushes in with a message asking for a constitutional amendment arid for a corporation tax in place of an income tax Row ju the world is heto reconcile his present conduct witlrJiis past declarations Now up to Taft It will soon be up to Presi dent Tuft The tariff bill is now in the hands of the conferees of the two Houses The bill when ifcJeft the House might bo called fairly good It had reduced ma ny schedules and
