was rem girded as a superstitious festival and put down in England by the strong hand of the law The holly and mistletoe bough were ordered to be destroyed root and branch as plants of the Evil One It was Oliver Cromwell who ordered that throughout the principal towns in the country Christmas should not be observed uIt being a hurtful custom In order to make people forget Christmas he enacted that all markets should be held on the 25th of December It was hard ly to be expected that the people would quietly submit to so ex traordinary a rule nor slid they During the illness of Henry VIII in the first year of his reign it was decided that the Christmas should be a silent one There were no bolls carols or merry making Successful Business The Clay City National Bank lias had its Charter renewed for another twenty years The bank stood the very best examination and is tL mark of unusual business ability The mink has the best wishes of a host of custom ers and the business men of Clay City are to be complimented for having such a sterling institution in their midst 1t 1Ed Bellis time B6veiireenyenr fldtiitftiofn in1113e11ia ia itraeiyd- angerons condition with a fract ured knee and Jnng
