condition Try ing to go Anywhere with a load now in Powell county is nothing but vexation and worry When a man puts a load on his wagon that one horse can easily pull on good roads and starts off to town 5 miles away with four horses hooked up and then gets stalled before ho goes a quartor ofa mile and has to pull every mus cle in his body trying at the hind wheel to help his team and then cant go he gets mad and x Usually a few cuss words will l slip out of his lips and generally a whole lot of thorn will let go Now if the roads had been smooth and hard the man could get to town and back in half the time with half the team and have no cause to think of using a single cuss word Then again if the unnecessary time and labor used in getting o Vcr our bad roads were only used In getting them good we would not have such terrible experienc I es in getting into town with a load The expense would be not so much in the long run and the hauling would be a pleasure We all now agree to this but let b some enterprising citizen sug gest that till who have teams with eight days hauling to do get fa f lth 1 Ii AAt rt 1 these bad jacted four days when t we can then do the eight days hauling in four days more and have the better roads hereafter without further attention and we wager a years subscription that three teams will not be on the ground Still we all want good roads what will we do for us to discuss this question any further in these columns The people of this town and city who have been here for twenty years and longer and who will be here for the next twenty years the lengthof the proposed franchise dont want it and dont have any need for a double exchange in Clay City All the people seem willing for the Bell system to have a toll line in here with the permission of the in all the States it if prohibited in many villages tivvns cities and precincts But in spite of the attempt of local authorities in these districts to prohibit the sale of liquor as a beverage the Federal Govern meat continues to issue licenso in contemptuous disregard of lo cal sentiment and local law The Government receives 25 for each licenso and in receiving the money it must either intend
