when we buy manufactured goods in foreign countries we get the hoods and the foreigner gets the money If we buy man ufactured goods in this country an American gets both the goods and the moneyAbraham Lincoln The above item has gone the rounds of the Republican press until the article makes them look las silly as the argument will appear when a little bit differently applied They used to make in Powell county wagons plows harness boots and shoes clothing table linens tanned our own leather and made many other ar ticles and when we did it we had both the goods and money in Powell county But further why should we have a law to really almost compel us to pay more for what we consume than the foreigner pays for the same goods American manufacturers can make goods as cheaply as a ny place in the world They do it but the consumer on this side of the water doesnt get the ben efit of it Langley will find that the people of Eastern Ken tucky are not such simpletons as to rely solely upon what he prom ises todo for thorn They have been watching his career in Con gress and will not overlook his record of voting almost every thing the priveleged interests wanted against what the people wanted for the sake of a few promises of what he will do for individuals The people now are demanding men who have the courage to stand out boldly for the right even against the Rawer of the patronage giving
