Wilkinson street and while there drew a pistol and placing the muzzle to his left breast fired The ball passed through his lung just above the heart and lodged under the skin of his back being where hhds The offerings this week have shown a rather larger percentage of good to fine burley leaf than usual and the market for such gouds has developed increased activity and strength Numerous sales were made at prices from S18 to S22 per hundred with oc casional sales from 22 to 25 and one hogshead was sold at 28 the record breaking notch of the season The rrfarket closed somewhat irregular and slightly easier for the very com mon and low medium grades We have made extensive investiga ¬ tion both by mail and telegrams re ¬ garding the extent of the recent rains The rain extended over the greater part of the dark tobacco pro ¬ ducing sections furnishing a splendid tobacco planting season The burley territory tributary to Louisville had fine rains and the transplanting in that section may be considered as having been practically completed In the burley district north and east of Lexington including the Mason county section and extreme Eastern Kentucky counties the rain was not general or heavy in many places not affording a good transplanting season and in these districts the planting at this date is far below the average crop and with a poor stand and in many neighborhoods a scarcity of plants The impression is becoming some what current that the 1894 crop was overestimated as to the quantity and it is certain that it will not afford the usual supply of good to fine leaf and that the trade must depend largely upon medium grades for their wants The holders of the unmarketed bur- ¬ ley tobacco believe that the situation justifies higher values than are now current
