illness with uremic poison aged forty eight years The deceased was a son of the late Jonathan F Meek and a grandson of the late John Balt zel for whom he was named He was born and spent a portion of seventeen years ago he determined to locate in someone of the growing cities of the west and came to this city to take leave of his grandparents when they pursuaded him to remain with them the balance of their days He then settling down here and in connection with Mr Richard Ferguson established the Capitdl City Machine Works which proved a losing investment and after a few years was sold out Since that time has been working at his trade and for the pist two years has had charge of the electric ligrit plant at the penitentiary He was a quiet but jolly whole souled gentleman a true friend and double barrelled shot guns over their shoulders and daggers dangling at their sides they were a dangerous looking set to meet on a lonely mountain top But we soon found that they came for peaceful proposition for a treaty of peace which was duly nego ¬ tiated signed and then ratified by fie peculiar feature of eating bread The chief sent post together haste to the village and got a thin round loaf of dark coarse bread and then he and our conductor each broke off a small piece which they ate together That act put the finishing touch to the treaty Although the dew of Hermon was too copious
