excitement of the war we lost sight of the fact that another Frankfort boy was in the Navv besides those heretofore mentioned By a clipping from a Tampa Florida paper we learn that Paymaster Eugene Hall formerly of this city was in the hot little engagement be- tween the U S S Mangrove con verted yacht and the Spanish gun- ¬ boat Herman Cortes in the harbor of 14 Caybein Aug wherein the Paymaster Cortes was captured Hall was conspicuous for his bravery Frankfort The Custodian of Public Buildings along with the other Americans Mr Hall has been ordered to tha was proceeding to repair and renew brick pavement in front of the Philippines for duty the Capital all the power he possessed When you call for DeWitts Witch under the law when he was served Hazel Salve the great pile cure riding a9 bay horsedriving well as Feeble Mindcd Institute acting for Apply to Mrs Win B Rodman o tf the State and impelled by a law suit and an injunction offered to Wanted pay half the cost of a public sewer down East Main and East Market N depot streets to the inlet at L A white man to take charge of The Council declined the proposi- ¬ gardens and cows on the shares Board and looms furnished tion 5 tt Miis Wm B Rodman The Commissioners then asked i fc That the relations existing between the city of Fiankfoit and the State should bo of the tuost cordial char ¬ acter in view of the natiual and pei tinent wants of thecity is scaicely a debatable question It was said duiing the last Legis lature and admitted by some of our most prominent citizens that at that time the citizens exhibited a marked Indifference to questions of capital appropiiation1 and capital removal This with the action of our county Representative lost the best oppor- ¬ tunity that has been offered for years of getting a liberal appropriation for completion of the capital building Lexington was prepared to move for such appropriation and Louisville stood ready to back it up But the day of opportunity was lost and instead a reactionary feel- ¬ ing against Frankfort took its place a strong under current of hostility and few were found who were willing to say anything good for our city In this emergency the Common Council seems disposed to erect a hostile barrier between the State and ¬ a twelve inch pipesfwer down the same route at State cost and to give the city fiee drainage for the damaging surface water of pike and sheet thecity not contributing one cent to its construction This permission was also refused unless the sewer was made a public sewer to be tapped by any one with the Councils permission This condition disastrous to the proper maintenance of the sewer could not be accepted by the Com ¬ missioners So the State is shut out of a very leasonable privilege needed by it in a veiy giave emergency And jet our people will apply for a capital appropriation and oppose capital removal and the city will ak for an appropriation to pay half the cost of the brick street in front of the Capital grounds and for other favors How can they expect to get them when the city cieates obstruction tending to an unfriendly attitude The case 3eems to us hopeless ¬ to
