Longmoor and W McKee Hardie FEMALE CLERKS AND JUDGES A woman judge and clerk has been selected to serve in voting precinct in Kansas City hat the primary election to be held on February 12 This is the first time in the history of Kansas poI itics where women have been chosen to serve in these capacities by the political parties having th selection of these officers Perhaps this is intended as a rebuke to Mr Butler who has brought so much derision upon himself through his attempt to introduce a bill repealing municipal suffrage Kansasr Journal tIvery significantly nsksIs there a motive underlying the rabid per sistence of Representative Butler in his efforts to secure the repeal of municipal suffrage for women In Topeka the influence of women in the election has always been the highest They can bel purityetion of public affairs For this very reason they might be con sid red a dangerous factor in the political affairs of some fcities they might seriously interfere with the politicians and fixers nHave the women of Kansas City dnrod to cross Mri Butlers pathOne amusing circumstance in connection with the death of this bill even before it had seen the light of day is the fact that when the legislatures of Colorado and Wyoming declare almost unani mously their satisfaction with the practical working of woman suf frage its opponents in other states insisted that these legisla tors dared not vote otherwise he cause they had a constituency of women Now here in this Kansas Legislature composed wholly men not a woman had a vote in its election not one could retal iate in any way with one ballot the Legislature could deprive them of it If woman suffrage is unsatisfactory why did this bill not get beyond the Judiciary Com mittee If the homes are neg lected the children uncored for the women unsexed here was a chance to regulate the whole bus iness I But instead the members of the Legislature would not even consider the bill and Mr Butler was made the butt of ridicule among his coworkers in the Legis laturo We know how terribly exasperating it is to the antisuffragists to hove thus rudely torn from 1them what at one time they hoped would prove tHeir one argument with which they could completely demolish the suffragists if they should ever dare again to ask for the ballot Kodol Dyspepsia Cure Digests what you eat Elo you Coughcure a Cough or Cold at grant the Frankfort and Suburban Railway the ofrfreight to the Hermitage Distil lery and the right of way to the switch yard on the West Side That privilege was granted to haul to the 0 F 0 and Kentucky Distilleries several years ago and we have heard no complaint from anyone Then why not increase the privileges of this company They have been struggling along under all sorts of adverse conditions to give us what wo ought to have in the way of rapid transportation and to show to the out- eideworld that our city is a live town The company deserves and needs better treatment at the hands of every body Let the road stop running once more and then those who oppose the granting of these privileges will be the first and loudest in their condemnation rRestora Water insures healthy wellknown widely advertised standard article and the dealer tries to sell him something else containing the offered substitute to be just as good that dealer is guilty of flagrant fasehoodIf substitute were just as good it would sell on its own merit and would be called for by cus tomers instead of having to be unloaded upon them by means of falsehood and deceit The very fact of the comparison tns good proves the claim todbe untrue Wo measure up uqt down We measure tho less by the greater not the greater by the less When therefore some unknown or little known article is ranged up for measurement by a well known standard article the very fact of such measurement and comparison stamps the sub stitute as a lesser thing than the standard article with which it is comparedBut is only half tho truth By this we prove the claim just as good to be a falsehood but the extent of that falsehood it is im possible to estimate Just as good means fn generaladul tel lation in place of purity an un certain quality instead ofa car tam quality cheap material in stead of good material And be yond all this the adulterants maybe not simply make weights and cheats but in some oases may be dangerous poisonsWWhen the dealer says just as good ask yourself just as good for whom YOl will find in theI answer to that question the motive of substitution which is the extra profit paid the
