focd certainly cant help but do you good South HarIdieTHE RATIONALE OF FIRE RATES By A F Dean Of this finely writen work we can nothing better than is said in the followingIThere have been many able books and papers relating to fire underwriting practices and problems but it is safe to say that one of the very ablest as well as most interesting productions of the kind that has been brought to the notice of the American underwriters in recent years is the newly pal lisped book entitled The Ra tionale of Fire Rates No description of the book unaccompanied by illustrative matter drawn from its own pages could do justice to its unusual merits It is a book that deserves to be carefully read by every underwriter whose ambition is to ex eel in his business It is of nI kind moreover that must needs be read studiously to be duly up predated There is nothing of the tyro about it no flippancy of treatment little or no threshing of old straw no illconceived as sumptions no startling conten tions On the contrary it teems with proofs of the master hand the proudest alike of expert tech nical skill undo high order of literary ability There is meat enough in its 225 pages to the texts and groundwork scores of elaborate underwriting treatises and from beginning end it is written in a most at tractive style I have been suffering from dyspepsia for the past twenty years and have been unable after trying all preparations and physi cians to get any relief After tak ing one bottle of Kodol Dyspepsia Cure I found relief and am now in bettor health than I have been for twenty years I can not praise KodolsDyspupsia Cure too highly Thus writes Mrs C W Roberts North Creek Ark South Longmoor W MoKee Hardie For The Roundabout IN MEMORIAM I In memory of our daughter Ella Sheets who died August 25 1000 Happy the angels in heaven above To have her for their own But heavens gain in angel love Has left us so sad and so lone For Ella we miss thee at eve and at noon We miss thee at rising of sun And oh it seems cruelly hard and soon To say Let thy will be done Yet we know thntIoHe dooth all things well None may know it bettor than we But of all the blessings wo here have toI tell None was so great as she While languishing on her bed she would say I am trusting Gods holy word Remember dear ones tis a debt all must pny- Praise the Lord oh praise the Lord With aching hearts weuklss the rod And try to submissive be For in that city whoso builder and maker is God A larger claim have wo Another loved one in the white robed throng Is singing at His right hand But Ella the longest will not be long Till wo meet in that sweet Beulah land There is something I want to tell you she said And something I want you to do With the things that art mine when I shall be dead- I will leave it all with you Give something to all of the things that- I leave- I never shall wear them more A spotless robe at His hands Ill receive When this pain and death are oer If not praying to die when the death angel bore Her away in his arms so cold We prayed as we never had prayed before That He guard closely the call for our souls For life without her seemed too sad tp bear And death so perilously sweet That we fairs would offer the Impious- prayer Let the cull for our louIs be fleet Heaven seemed so close we could almost hear- The sound of angel wings And we so longed to go and be with her And so dreaded what the years must bring But tis right all right though rebel lious we may Arraign Gods works and will For we find as wo trend lifes dark thorny way IHIs Son intercedes for us still Then sweet saint by reason of this faith we may- Whisper our farewell to thee For an earnest of that Heaven is with us always Keeping us nearer to thee HER FATHER AND MOTHER Mr W J Baxter of North Brook N Post of Monday lust there appeared the fol lowing dispatch FrankforfcKyApril 22Ken tuoky river is out of its Ranks at the lower edge of Frankfort just below the mouth of Benson creek and is rising at the rate of three inches per hour No great dam age has yet been done but the river is ut the danger line with i every indication of a continued rise Navigation is entirely sus pended on account of the freshet The water is nearly over the roof of the wharf at which the steam boats land below the St Clair street bridge and the river is full of drift wood This shows a rise ofabout six teen feet since Friday night The continued rains will probably cause a further rise of several feet which will flood the lower part of the town The river is not how ever expected to get as high as it did in 1884 wheu the streets in the business portion of the town were under water and rowboats were seen tied to lamp posts about State House Square II Benson creek is out of its banks and is us broad as Kentucky river usually is In the first place the river has not left its banks nor has the water reached the roof of the ware house on the Custom House Wharf by nearly three feet much less over it In the next place the river did not get out of itsI banks at all in 1884 In 1888 river was higher than ever known busIinesswere no ever up lamp posts around the atI House yard The low back of the StateHouse were over flowed as has been the case four or five times in our knowledge but south of the State House grounds the water never rose to the streets It was bad enough as it was but for pity sake dont make it any worse We would advise our friend to call on some one who knows be fore he sends out such misleading articles as this A VERY REMARKABLE REMEDY IjleUs1 It is with a good deal of uuro and
