sustain an agricultural fair It is only necessary in order to prove this to refer to past history When we were a kid Louisville had splendid grounds handsome anl- ecessaryphitheatre and every adjunct for making such a fair a success and yet in a few short years the grounds were sold for debt and the fair abandoned imply because the people of the city would not sustain it On the contrary Lexinit is the natural location for th fair It is in the very heart of tin finest agricultural and stock region in the State if not in tho world Hu people lave always liberally pa tronized and made n success of such a fair as was designed by the framers of the law under which it is to he held This decision is a sad blow and disappointment to the very inter est it was designed to help It curries failure upon intelli gent child keepers With these kindred spirits no mother need fear of leaving her child at home while she attendeds ocial func tions or was absent on other occasions The one who has charge of earliest childhood years must have superior endowment must hold herself above the low ideas of com mon environment and make her charge one of love In the days before the war the black mammy heldsuperior sway Her province was loyal service she had as much jurisdiction over the white child as the mother herself It was the tenderest of solicitude Today a colored nurse abrogates au thority compulsory and forces her charge against its will It is in deed a cruel thing this dominant willpower under which the mod ern motherhood loses vantage ground and become nerveless and incapacitated No small wonder that the infant terrible is incorrigible and the drift of tendencies toward the reformatories calculated to cause shame Read the childhood of Thaw and asceratin how comradeship poisoned his earliest social status Go back to Bible history and find why the sons of Eli suffered death because their father would not re strain them even when he saw the fruits of their disobedience U the utter ungraciousness of all classes of servants why not bring the subject nearer home and condense sufficiently to enable most mothers to secure attendants worth while Mothers you are in great measure responsible for the going a stray of your child You placed it amid temptatfons and left it alone Small wonder then that handicapped by a nurse who dope- it to cause it to sleep and whips it to
