may be able to bustow upon them They are both ideal gentlemen and no mistake can be made in selecting either to be our next Representative The Duty of the Party The Republican primary which is to be held on Saturday February 21 1001 will certainly be an interesting day for many of the Republican as pirants It should be a great day to the Republican party in Ohio county because on that thy men will br chosen to go forth to do battle for tb6 party and carry its banner U victory Quite a number ot candi dales have tillered for each office tc be filled at the next regular election nnd from among this number the very best anti most capable men the men that can fight the partys battle against oddvf needs be should be nominated that the already sure victory may be made doubly sure No mistake should be made putting time proper man in the fied RepnblicanIvice of wise counselors and make it cause the peoples cause it will have no trouble in holding the confidence of the business men of tbe county and a perminent place at tbe court house In order that perfect harmony might dwell in tbe ranks nod that tb very best men be nominated for the various offices the Republican Execu tive Committee has ordered that n primary election be made the instru ment through and by which the nominees of the party will be declared This is a very wise precaution which insures harmony uud victory after the primary is over Every Republican is most assuredly in favor of the majority rule and when one candidate has received a greater vote than any of his contem pories it is but right and just that ho be declared the nominee and those defeated like honest and honorable men will be found ready aOlI willing supporters of their successful rival man that did more ellcctive campaigning In intering this campaign which promises to be most interesting Every candidate should remember that the better policy is to treat the other fellow as you would have him treat you There should be mud the worst element oi Republicanism which is not only odious but dangerous and that he has no patience with any man who does not endorse Taylorlsro and all of its concomitant evils is a thrust at any man who believes in a lair ballot and a fair count who voted for Governor Taylor and endorsed his fight for the office to which be was fairly elected- It appears ol late that the Demo crats slander and abuse every roan who opposes Goebellsiu Because Governor Bradley called the militia to the armory in Louisville to protec life and property on election day In 99 he was denounced and compared to Jesse James For the reason that Rogers has defended the course of the Republican party and exposed the tricks of the Goebelites he is now de nouncedby the character assassins o being blinded by
