with one end in view to arrouse dis tension in the Republican party for they know success can come to them through no other channel and as a last and desperate venture tbey have decided to assume leadership for tbe opposing party Mr Leach is not the only man whose name and honor have been in suited by the Democratic candidates and their management but from ap pearance there are a number of other gentlemen Among them is Mr TIKB H Benton of Centtrtown than whom there is no stronger or more loyal Republican in tbe county This Democratic petition is accepted by Mr Benton as a great insult to his honor and patriotism So hu miliated was he ou learning that Democrats were issuing calls for him to make the race for Skerifl 4 tt on an Independent ticket under the guze ot Republicanism he deemed it his duty to brand it a Demo cratic forgery Mr Benton handles the intuit to his pride and honor as docs Mr Leach without gloves Concluding a paragraph ho says 1 therefore DENOUNCE IT AS A corruption fund for a Repub bean would not dare do such a thing charging Republican frauds without citing a single instance where fraud was committed These Democratic dodgers have charged fraud iu the Republican primary and have never been able to find a single man who Irst his vote on account of frauds These fellows who openly boasted ol their ability to out stealout count andout contest these same breaden of Goobeliem revolutionary and an archistic election laws laws that remove every element of chance JromI the result of the election these angelt ic Godlike purificationists long faced sinspotless political dispensa tionists are the wouldbe dictators oi Ohio county Republicanism Fellow citizers do you waut them Read Mcsr Leach and Bentons letters and judge for ourselCscS POLITICAL COWARDICE Less than twelve months ago the Democratic candidates now before the people were waging a ruthless warI against the people on strict political and aMaaination lines They were bold in their defense of the contest and the overthrow of civil liberty so intense were they infatuated with their seeming success that when they planned rally and ratification tbeyI called a meeting of the faithful and sorely charged them that the cry of the day was not for a free and fair count and a loyal submission to the decree of the peoplebut it waVassaa sination The chairman of the Dem ocratic party issued his command that nothing should be said or done that would tend to allow men to reason but instead inflammatory charge were to be made the passions and prejudices of the common people were to be fanned into insolence andrag log hatred the gods of reason were dethroned and driven from the king dom while the idolatrous reveled in the magnanity of their infamy These same gentlemen who are insisting that their character and conduct are such that they are meritorious of the peoples goodwill and special favor didmore to carry politics into the sanctuary and the home circle than the citizens of any other community in this commonwealth from the stump the man who cast his vote for John W Yerkes and civil liberty was denounced as an assassin through the columns of the press they talked of revolutionary methods of the Re publican party and denounced Ken tuckys rightful Governor as a mur derer and drove him from the Stale and placed in the executive chair a man that bad actually been defeated by a decisive majority in private correspondence to the men in the ranks they urged a strict adherence to the party lines advising that a vote for Yerkes was an indorsement of all the lawlessness of last winter Having fought the campaign on lines of prejudice andassassination they lost out and were repudiated by a majority of 400 libertyloving citizens Realizing as they most cer tainly do that another campaign waged on as8assinationuud the ejec tion of Governor Taylor would result in total annihilation the head of tIle ticket and the candidate for Clerk have laid aide their past conduct wretched as it is and are now plead ing for the abolition of politics from the campaign and issuing orders to the fieldmen no politics in it boys like the cry of the midnight rogue It is with the Republicans to deter mine whether these mess shall be judged by the deeds done in the body they have it iu their power tn calla halt on the rabid and frenzied demon of cruel injustice they can soy to the man who carries the vote of the people in his pocket I will call you to strict account for those passion stirring paintings and be cut that was flourished in the bulls face which made him bawl out Yep theres your civil liberty It is with in the power of the R publicans and laboring men of this county to advise this man that he who votes against the laboring man shall not be promoted to oilier it Ialso in the power ot the Republicans to say to the head of the ticket a man who male the race for office in 97on the Populist ticket advocated Populist doctrine in
