Seiatorlil Ce mlttee Denies the Charge of Mr HamptoH Editor HAZEL GRERN HBKALD I desire to make a statement to tb democrats of the 34th senatorial distric of KeotuckJI sec a card in the papers I J Hampton in which ho ofTors some reflections upon my rul lugs as chairman of tho district in tb late convention He says I forcibly too the voto of Macoffin county from himI and gave it to Mr Stamper No state meat that could bo mado with referenceI to my actions in that convention how ever false and insinuating would do moI greater injustice Thorn wasa contort t lagoffin two seta of delegates came toI tho convention ono headed by Hon D D Sublett was for Mr Stamper and the other headed by Hon DudleyGard nor was fur Mr Hampton I called the appointrI lug two one was Henry Noble of Jackson a delegate for Mr Hampton and ono of his leaders tempoto rary l G W Uoad of Morgan and lion Dudley Gardner of Magolfu wore before the convention to be votes for as chair countiesdcounty cast 9 votes for Goad without ob jection Wolfe county gave her five votes to Goad Urcathitt countys 8 votes went to Gardner Gardner got the ono vote of Owaloy When Magoflln was readied her ft votes were tried to bo cast for each of tho candidates for chairman Each side presented credentials I know from tho manner and temper of the con testing delegations that tho context was a hot one I therefore declined to lot that couuty vote in tho temporary or ganization and referred their credentials I to tho committee on credentials When I made tho nmJouncomont some ono from Morgan tried to cast the vote of that county for Gardner I know ho was no delegate I knew thero was nocon t teat in my county as I was chnrlman and presided over the county convention only ono held in my county and in th convention there was no proposition made or anything whatever said about a contest I took Judicial notice of this fact nnd refused to hear the straw contest raised Tho voto stood 14 for Goad nnd 9 for Gardner Iso announced the voto and declared Goad duly elected temporary chairman of the convention Ono of thc secretaries Mr Noble with out tho shadow of authority announced that Goad hind received 11 votes nod Gardner M votes making a tie Their secretary did not claim that Gardner was elected and hind no right to do so It was at this time that tho Hampton men from Breathitt and Mngoflm with drew from tho convention and in one end of tho convention hull hold n sideshow in which they claim to have voted all tho counties in tho district for Hump ton except Wolfo county as shown by conf vention tints composed of stalwart honest judoj cious ami brainy democrats reported seating Stampers delegation in Mngodln which report was adopted by the con ventlon nod after Mr Lykins of Mor gan had Ills name withdrawn from tho convention as candidate Hon A How ard Stamper received the 9 votes of Mor nan C votes of Wolfe and 0 votes of Mogollin being nit tho voles in tho dis trict except 9 and amid almost deafen ing applause which attest tho high ca tent in which our nominee is held by tile boys in the trenches and that ho is the choice of tho democrats of tho ills trict permanent chairman Goad declar ed him tho nominee of tho democratic party for state senator I want to say further that it is a fact which ovary delegate at tho convention knows to bo Hampl they remained in hazel Green and worked nnd electioneered industriously hoping the drop would in the end fall on Mr Hampton and that ho would be tho nominee of the regular convention I wonder If Mr Hampton will deny that ho told parties in Hazel Green after tho side show was over that ho would not accept the nomination under such cir cumstances Tho parties can be found veracit ty can not question statements I have made are true and I
