has produced considerable dissatisfaction ia other parts of the county and wo learn that petitions of protest are or will be put in circulation We have never seen the act dont know its provisions and consequently can not speak for or against it The poll tar is intended to defray tbe expenses of the whole county faking care of paupers etc and for its proper disbursement ap plication c the court of claims is established Now those who complain alledge that the said act is an unfair depletion of the county revenue that the bridges in Eultoa are in good condition for some years to come and that tbe taking of this amount of polls by the town of Fulton will devolve nil tbe burdens of the county on the other precincts The town ef Hick man for instance keeps up bridges c inside the corporate limits by special town taxation and pays the county poll tax besides From this stand point it would eeom that Fulton fchould do the same Such special taxation is tbo certain blessing of all corporate cities and while the Cou ¬ rier has long argued that any town acts foolish io submit to any incorpo- ¬ ration yet when they do so they should bear the yoke of consequent debt and taxation equally with their fellows If tho town of Hickman should follow the example of relieving its citizens of the county poll tax and by its charter it can do so any day our city council may so elect it would devolve all the county expenses for bridges and other expenses outside the towns of Hick- ¬ man and Fulton on the other portions of tho county Our county bridges arc nono too good now and if tho rev- ¬ enue is
