over tho Santa Fo to Attica Kans in tho southern part of tho state Our train out of Louisville was a heavy one carrying hundreds of home seekers and pleasure seekers as well who were on route to tho Mardi Gras at New Orleans Wo arrived at Memphis at 10 a m on tho 21st ono hour too Into to catch the through morning Frisco train for the West so we spent tho entire day Wednesday In Tonnes sees mctroplls Memphis is one of thcfiret cities of tho South and second only to New Or leans AS a cotton center hundreds of thousands of bales of tho fleecy staple being marketed there annually When it comes to skyscrapcre tho Tennessee city has our own dear Louisville skinned oven rivaling anything M yet planned i the Tennessee and Mem phis Exchange both office structures and each of which are 1C stories The main wholesale and retail marts will compare favorably with that of Louisville Tho Mississippi river here at Mem phis Is miles to tho low water mark on the Arkansas side of the river a bluff and the Lone Star State has called one The Supreme Court of Texas has decided that a contract between a railroad company and one express company to the exclusion of others is a violation of the Texas statuteand all the ex press companies threaten to withdraw from the State The dispatch from Austin states that ExGov Hogg was already organizing an independent express company to take their place Unfortunately for them the railroads cant withdraw from the State they are nailed down UY a vote of eight to seven the National House Committee has decided not to recommend any appropriation to
