prefers the night hours for work frequently sitting up until 2 or 3 oclock lie Is most elaborate in his methods and pro nounces aloud every word that ho writes In order to test its fitness The confer nce of miners and operators at Terro Hante id failed to reach an agreement OUR CANDIDATE In this issue of the Register appears the announcement for Congress of the lion Harvey Helm of Lincoln county Mr Helm is well known to the people of this county as the man to whom they gave their allegiance in the campaign two years ago which as nil remember was won by Congressman Gilbert of Shelby Though ho went Into the con vention that year with the largest num ber of instructed votes by reason of the long deadlock and tho action of the committee which tricked him out of tho vote of Garrard county he was de feated In that convention his selec tion was the will of the voters of the district as evidenced by the preponder ating number of Instructed votes in his favor But when victory was taken from life grasp by the coalition of his opponents ho accepted defeat with be coming grace and is therefore accord ing to our view tho logical candidate for the honor today Wo supported Mr Helm in his previous race and having since that time had no reason to change our opinion are for him again He is in this race solely because he thinks he can win and we shall assist him to tho best of our nblillty The contest between tho candidates will be a friendly ono as all three are gentlemen who will conduct the campaign on a high plane Mr Helms record is without spot or blem- Ish he Is educated trained and experienced in matters that lit him eminently for tho position to which ho aspires and his service In the House would be such as to reflect the highest credit on his constituencyWe of Mr Helm a moment ago as being the logical candidate for this honor That he is and wo are confident it will be so recorded by the voters of the district But this fact did not deter him from giving the right of way to his gifted friend the late beloved Dick Miller Through tics of friend ship he yielded his protentions to those of his friend anti was one of Mr Mill ers most enthusiastic supporters The untimely death of Madisons brilliant son has however loft tho way clear and ho has now come to this county to claim his own And we have little doubt that he will be here accorded the same enthusiastic support that hn received two years ago The people of this county know Mr Helm as they do not know tho gentlemen opposing him they know he was entitled to the pom nation in the convention two years ago they know his record is straight and that ho Uof Congressional caliber and thinking of those things wo believe they will cast their ballots in his favor and give him the honor in an honest prima ry to which he was entitled in tho last convention by tho votes of the people Richmond Register The announcement of lion Harvey Holm as n dandldato for Congressman in this distdtt appears in this Issue Mr Helm is rll and favorably known throughout tho district and was tho contending candidate for tho nomina tion two years ago in the longdrawn out convention held hero when Mr Gilbert was nominated for the third time Ho came to Shclbyvlllc nt that time with more instructed votes than either of his opponents had and the conven tion was deadlocked until ho with drew and the honor was given to Mr Gilbert Mr Helm is a stalwart Democrat an untiring worker in tho party ranks an intelligent brainy man Ho is a mixer with men and will make n most ex cellent Congressman if elected She has announced again in the Eighth district He is a finely equipped young lawyer ambitious and competent and wo predict that he will set a pace that will alarm his competi tars from the start lIe is a fino campaigner and is the possessor of a clean political record Frankfort Journal liON HARVEY HELM spent Sunday at his home here nnd was in fine spirits over his race for the democratic nomi nation for Congress He has visited several counties including Madison and says his chances for carrying them are as good aa he could wish In Mad- Ison the democrats are for him almost to a man lie has heard most gratifying reports from Shelby Spencer and Anderson while Rockcastlo is as solid for him this time as that county was two years ago Gnrrnrd friends pledge him n good vote and Jessamine will ma terially help him Gilbert delegates from Shelby and Spencer to the famous deadlocked convention at Shelbyville pro Helm workers now believing ho is the logical candidate for Congress and remembering his gallant fight against treat odds To us it looks like easy sailing for our friend and county man and heres hoping his majority may be far up into the thousands Mr Helms incumbency of tho office of county attorney for two terms made him a few enemies of course but his manly fight for justice and right should make rightthinking people rally to his support and cause them not only to talk for Mr Holm but work for him County pride should make old Lincoln roll up such a majority for him as she never did before It has been nearly a century since this good county had a democratic representative in Congress and a good many of 6ur people are thoughtless OB to the benefit one would be Suppose for instance Mr Bryan should bo nominated and elected and we had Mr Helm in Congress in slang parlance wouldnt we be in It 1 We might get a public building liko Rich mond did when Senator McCrcary was represcuting this district Any way with democrats in power there would bo offices galore to distribute and Mr Helm would make a capital distributor However Lincoln county democrats do not have to be reminded of tho hope of office to make them vote and support a homo man They have too much pride for that and we predict they will ur theIhome county The more wo hear Congressman the better it sounds Lets him Congressman Helm s J H DUNN has sold his drug store at Paint Lick to J M Metcalf who has
