and tho clearlymark ed drawing of Individually interesting types of character called A Race for a Widow comes to Waltons Opera House Stanford While this play is filled with genuine comedy from start Saturday An engine struck them mangling John Harris arm so badly that it had to be amputated and inter nally injuring Lewis Rout Both are in a critical condition FRANKFORT Tho writer had tho pleasure of spending Saturday in Frank fort nnd visiting several of tho many places of interest there First he went builtIthe Immesno structure The stone ma Ions and bricklayers are almost up to tho second story with their work which is said to be progressing finely This feeble pen can give little Idea of the magnificence of this great building which when oompleted will have to 1m seen to bo appreciated The design is something after tho order of the capitol at Washington and tho prominence which will be given it by its command ing site will make every Kcntuckmn who looks upon it proud of his State and tho splendid management of its af lossiblechange of conditions a few years havo brought about as he looked on tho mil liondollar building under construction Six years ago when Gov Beckham took hold of the reins of the government the treasury was depleted the State in debt and things generally in a chaotic state Ask yourself who is most responsible for and duo tho greatest cred it for the remarkable change for the better in the States affairs We call ed at the executive building but found several of the State officials away some speaking and others looking after the States interest outside of Frankfort It was a very quiet day on the square as the seat of government is sometimes called An hour or so was spent In Frankforts historic cemetery where so many of Kentuckys illustri ous sons sleep their last sleep Tho lit tle mound that marks the resting place of the lamented Goebel was of most interest to us For six long years he has been buried there and yet no stone tells who lies under the sod although tho money for a handsome monument was contributed by thousands of friends nnd admirers some five years ago What does the Goebel Monument Com mission mean by its seeming careless ness of a duty it has been elected to perform Eight other governors are buried in this beautiful city of the dead five U S Senators rest there and one vicepresident sleeps tho sleep that knows no waking A large monument marks tho graves of Daniel and Rebec ca Boonc Tho remains were brought to Kentucky from Missouri in 1845 and in 1862 tho Legislature made provision for tho monument which has been been greatly defaced by seekers after curios Joel T Hart Theodore OHa ra Henry Clay Jr son of the great Commoner Henry T Stanton who wrote the Moneyless Man and many other famous Kentuckians lie under the sod of this beautiful cemetery Tho State monument 65 feet high and built at a cost of 20000 is an exceedingly handsome piece of work Over 8000 people have been buried in the Frank fort cemetery which contains 83 acres and which overlooks the busy city of Frankfort A drive to the Feeble Minded Institute showed that institu tion crowded with the States unfortu nates there being about 260 inmates The grounds are large and beautifully kept but the building is inadequate to the demands of the present It is a sad place to visit For Instance one grown man old enough to be the headof a family was seen riding a stick horse and seemingly getting as much pleas ure out of it as a boy of five Some of tho inmates are said to be so bereft of reason that it is absolutely necessary for the attendants to feed them like they would babies to keep them from starving After seeing these there was no desire to visit the penitentiary where nearly 1500 men women mid children are paying the penalty of their crimes Frankfort is quite a manufact uring center and a great deal of busi nessa of all kinds is done there It has almost as many miles of street railway as Lexington and tho car service is just as good In fine what we once refer rapIdlyed to a of some importance at no distant day IDONT forget the great picnic at Jones Kelsays Oak Grove Park near Yosemite Saturday If you want
