husbandry and before the first year had passed I wa s called on by three valuable and in dispensable fox hounds to set up u 150 South Down supper for which I never nuked and never received cent Hut I did get discouragement enough to de sist from raising sheep for about 12 years Last summer I decided to try sheep raising again and mako it my principal branch of stock raising and bought 300 ewes During tho winter and spring I havo been greatly dam aged by hounds running through myI flocks every few nights causing ewesI heavy with lamb to crowd through gopsI run over steep banks and jumping ditches causing them to lose their lambs On one occasion a fine ewe triedI to jump a ditch partly filled with hedge brush She landed in tho brush and was dead when found I have had soy oral rods of wire fence torn loose from tho posts and broken and tangled into a shape that was almost irreparable caused by my cattle being stampeded and running Into It My sheep are in different pastures all over my farm and every few nights I have had the ex ijuiaito delight of listening to the enchanting music as tho hounds would charge through my worthless sheep creating consternation and confusion And about tho time the lambs would find their motherland get settled down only to be again aroused and scared almost to death by the returning mon archs of tho track and this to be repeated almost all night- I have learned recently that hounds havo been poisoned in my locality and that I am the only man mean enough to be suspected of it Also that a re ward of about 200 has been offered for tho apprehension of tho guilty party Now my dear friends and neighbors soI far as I am concerned you can save your reward money for other purposes All you have to do is to have manhood enough to ask me and I will try to scrape up courage enough to tell youI tho truth I have never tried in any way to harm a hair of any hound for the last 15 years until this Tuesday morning March 26 when ono of my men told mo a hound was chasing my sheep I went out and shot at him to kill and it was only distance that saved his life I hope ho will not return My sheep might bite him I do not know of any fox hunter who would wilfully or maliciously damage me Nor do I know a fox hunter that I tnlnk is mean enough to persist in running through my flock8 if ho know of tho damage that was being done I do not intend that any one shall suffer loss simply that I may bo amused And I am beginning to think I havo sustained my quota of loss for tho amusement of fox hunters And now in order that peace on earth good will and truo friendship may exist among us all I ask you kind ly not to run your hounds through my premises Very RespectfullyA ren How to Remain Young To continuo young in health and strength do as Mrs N
