Campbell Lillard McKnight and the Louisville trio could not have taken exception It is left for the CourierJournal and other republican papers to find fault with the great Commoner and intimate that he is meddling with private affairs in trying tb help elect a democrat who won his nomination in as fair a primary as was ever held in Kentucky But what care either Mr Bryan or his friends what the CJ space in your val uable columns to call attention to the danger that encompasses tho dog law At Frankfort the first bill Introduced was for the repeal of this law and In the governors message he especially urges its repeal for the reason that it imposes too much extra work on his private secretary I would suggest that before the governor urges its uncondi tionol repeal that ho make a visit to a flock of sheep that has been visited by dogs where they have not for the want of food but simply to gratify their cu riosity killed from 100 to 200 and demoralizing as many more in a single night and 1 feel sure with the usual in terest in all he will change his mind and have an additional assistant to care for the extra work The money will be well spent and the owners of tho sheep better satisfied and protected If it cosi the salary of an extra secretary and the farmers demand it would it be anything but equity Do not the far mers pay tho lions share of the tax and get the lambs share of protection It seem nothing but just that he should have at least one especial protection for one of the greatest farm industries against the worthless dogs 90 per cent of which are kept by irresponsible own ers who are not financially able to care for their families to say nothing of the dogs Since they are not responsible or willing to pay for the dnmago done by their dogs and while it seems to work a hardship on those who keep a poodle and dogs for sport still there if no law enacted that does not work a hardship on some one and the best and quickest way and most equitable to tax all dogs is to pay for sheep killed by dogsThe man with no children who is tax ed to educate some other mans children feels it is an injustice as does the poodle to pay for the enjoyment of the shepherd brother But it is law and we have to stand Itso lets stand the dog tax and ask the influence of every newspaper in the Commonwealth and call attention to the Representatives to defeat its repeal The writer has no sheep but about 12 years ago lostspme 350 worth one night killed by dogs and from that time has talked and worked until a tax was submitted and became a law Mr Croan engineered it through and got the name while I did the work which is all right Just so we got the law and if he is present let him work to maintain it Now with all that work and expense of enactment in justice to the sheep industry let every man speak out through his repre sentative to have it remain in force The Commonwealth maintains a guard to protect foreign tobacco trusts while they shear the grower who works 12 months with it and gets one tenthof its value Why refuse to contribute to the dog tax to protect sheep the most innocent and defenseless of all animals and the only one whose innocence is compared with that of the Savior of men T A BRADLEY Danville Ky IN NEIGHBORING COUNTIES Warlord Gos furniture store at Richmond was destroyed by fire Smith Clay a Boyle county Negro was itself ao much human love and so much of true friendship from tho whole public as Clarence Ben netts The Holy City It takes hold of the heart of tho auditor at once It bears that magic spell of genius that makes it real to an auditor lie at once forgets that it is a play and is car ried away with its realism Having once seen it it ever after takes on a sort of personality It becomes to us like some person whom we have known and loved We remember it not as a play but as an old friend andon its return hasten to grasp it by the hand onlyaone true mark of real genius in a dra ma Another is that every time you see it again you find new and beauti ful things that you had never seen in it before This Is one of the few plays that will live to delight our grandchildren and their children after
