Loulsvillo on an Easter excursion I stopped on my way at n city where tho lofty Cedars of Lebanon grow and was sent for to bo regaled at tho stately old brick dwelling on a 9 t 000 farm where beautiful women are indigenous and was regaled with a ban quet that would have done honor to roy alty After staying there several hours during which timo I was entertained with everything edible and delicious i and was called all kinds of endearing names such as you aro tho sweetest thing that ever happened which to mo was a novel expression wo all re paired to tho depot to take the train for Louisville to enjoy Easter and to enjoy tho company of ono whoso lips are sweeter than tho honey of the Hyb la boo Wo arrived at Louisville In due time and I came near having another bull fight in which the bulletin of bat tie would have been written with pistol balls instead of fists Perhaps wo did not exchange a word nothing more than a cold frozen bow but I neverI quarrel but my mind was m But tho matter was quelled without n i quarrelsome word and we repaired to tho Hotel Broadway and restaurant and enjoyed ourselves for sometime until one of our party who has but ono sweetheart and dollars for you and I would not marry you for 100000 billionIt Blackstone and all classic beauties have been abandoned but tho heroic lover is now at tho Campbell House and appears to bo clothed and in his right mind and is singing or thinking lam glad I am free from womans deceit and drinking and when a girl again foots mo exceed ing smart I think hell be II Some pumpkins now I am thinking This was an abrupt ending of a veritable wedding tour that was to extend in ono glorious circle round through Frankfort Lex ington and other larger cities for two t weeks duration Tho Gondola of lovo was gayly deck ed and launched upon Cupids boister ous sea but n disastrous wreck upon a rockbound coast and tho fragrant flow- ersi of hope Bro withered and blighted y 1and the lawyer bids farewell to his muse and resumes his former pursuits And Cupid yields his scepter and Sir Wm Blackstone mounts the throno where two months ago ho reigned supreme During tho quarrel I heard tho lawyer say Why do you weave in tho loom of falsehood such a long concatenation of fancy stones Knnwcst thou not that a lawyer of Harlan county court fame can divine 7 The dream la all over the flowers of hope all blighted and blasted by the frosts of sad disap pointment The lawyer only garnered a few Infertile barren insipid kisses whoso dewy freshness was gathered long ago by the more fortunate and earlier riser Yet tho lawyer is quite happy In his misery because it has end ed at last FONTAINE F BOBBITT A Glorious Success Leaving Wayncsburg at 130 r u April 19th after a precious service and a good candid gentleman and an unswerving democrat He is unwilling athis June ture of party affairs to become a dis turbing element and for that reason only withdraws His purpose to become a candidate for the full term in 1909 will meet with the approbation of all right thinking people for it must be conceded that Lincoln county never had- a wiser better or a more conserva tive official than Judge J ts P Bailey Tim Kentucky State Journal has just rounded out its third year under the management of Mr W P Walton who for over 25 years edited this paper When Mr Walton took charge of the State Journal it was in the worst run down condition from every standpoint imaginable He at once enlarged the paper added new machinery made many other improvements and in a short while had the Journal on a paying basis Besides having a good thing fie nancially in his paper Mr Walton has the distinctionof owning the only true blue democratic daily in Kentucky May it live long and prosper SPEAKER CANNON nature for him to try to get evenFrankfort Journal i To The County Committee of Lin coln County Recently I made to you and the public announcement of my candidacy for the democratic nomination for the oflice of Judge of the Lincoln County CourtI The election will be held next Novem ber and will be for the purpose of fill ing a vacancy in the term for which Judge Warren was elected in Novem ber 1905 After the death of Judge Warren tho governor appointed Hon J S Owsley to fill the vacancy for the periodof one year this being the remaining one year of Judge Warrens term to be filled by popular election Having heretofore held this office and by reason of this fact having had op portunity to become somewhat familiar with its duties I was the more readily disposed togive heed to tho suggestions of friends who requested me to an nounce myfcandidacy for this fragment of a term I did so but after some further reflection 1 gravely doubt whether under the existing and I may add exceptional circumstances I should have done so FirstI am forced to consider the fact that in 1905 in a contest between myself and Judge Warren for the democratic nomination for this office he was chosen the partys nominee By this result it was made known that I was not the partys choice for this of fice for that particular term of four years A fragment of this term is yet unexpired These facts and the infer ence to be made from them may not be entitled to weighty consideration but since I have invariably been loyal to my party organization and mean to be in the future I shall resglve the doubt in favor of what may seem to be the partys will as expressed in the contest referred to SecondThere is an additional reason why I should not prosecute a further candidacy which I think will commend itself tp all party associates Ken tucky has come to be a debatable ground in National contests Party die visions within the last year have been both grievous and disastrous We can not afford to lose the State in the com ing presidential race No democrat should be willing for the sake of his own personal preferment to run the risk of disturbing to the smallest de gree the harmony which must prevail in order to win the States electoral vote Since probably my candidacy might have this disturbing effect 1 now formally withdraw it In so doing I tender to the gentlemen who have given me assuranceof their support my cor dial thanks and take this opportunity to say further that I will be a candi date for the next ensuing four years term JAS P BAILEY HUSTONVILLE The ladies exchange of
