sinceI last Saturday but the facts of his con dition were concealed by his family Had Senator Allison lived to complete hi term in 1909 ho would have served longer in the United States Senate than any be few to him CLAY RUPLEY JR ASSAULTED This la what the Louisville Times has- r to say about the attempt to rob Clay Rupley Jr of this place Tuesday Morning A desperate attempt was made to rob II C Rupley Jr an in surance agent of Stanford Ky at the mouth of an alloy on the East side of Fifth street shortly before 1 oclock this morning Ho was assaulted and would have been robbed but for the timely arrival of Patrolmen Mike Cross and James Prile The police arrested J W Keeling and Edward Lambert both aged 18 years it is claimed while they were in the act of rifling Rupleys pockets A third man in tho gang byntho police in several shots were fired Rupley had just arrived In Louisville and was on his way from the Tenthstreet station to the Willard Hotel at the time ho was attacked When he reached the mouth of the alley he was struck from tharear and rendered unconscious Patrolman Cross and Prile who were standing about 75 feet from the alley heard the body as it struck the ground and turning saw a man standing over the prostrate form At a signal from the man it is said by the police two men appeared at the mouth of the alley and picking up Thetpolice started up the alley and then creeping along in the shadow followed the men They were able to grab two of the men be fore they were discovered The third fled through the alley with Patrolman Cross after him but he made good his escape in the darkness Rupley was carried to Foster Bairds drug Store at Fourth avenue and Chestnut street where medical attention was given him It was almost an hour before he Will revived It Is
