are indeed worthy of emulation It can truly be said of him that he possessed all of the necessary attributes that are characteristic of an ideal young manHe had been In tho service of the L N for nearly 20 years and the high esteem in which he was held was fully attested when over 1200 of his friends gathered in Birmingham to pay their respects to his memory The expres sions of love and sympathy that were manifested In tho beautiful floral de signs were sufficient If that were pos sible to alleviate tho sorrow of his loved ones His parents were expecting him for a visit and when the sad news of his dreadful fate reached them it seemed more than they could bear It was indeed touching to read the letter he had one of Ills comrades write them after he realized his condition trying to console them and showing In such a beautiful way his thoughtfulness of them When tho sad message came of tho terrible accident his brother T T Martin at once hastened to his bedside but found his to about 225 was taken from the vast au dience This more than paid off the indebtedness and the church was then dedicated to the Lords service A song and benediction followed after which the crowd was invited to a shady nook near a bubbling spring where an elegant dinner was spread There was an abundance of the best of everything to- eat and everybody was well cared for The writer had the pleasure of dining with the families of Messrs Will Field and W M iMatheny and he fared sumptuously It was a great day at Highland and the home people andI those from a distance who were present will not soon forget it While dozens of the members have worked In season and out for the new church building Mrs C M Young has probably collected more monepr than any other personI The foundation of the new Highland Methodist church was laid in 1904 but many obstacles prevented the comple tion of the building until a few months ago The membership is neither a large nor a wealthy one and the lack of funds greatly retarded the work Rev P H Ebright the aged pastor who has been with the church for the past three years was probably the happiest man on the grounds It is his last work as a pastor for after this month he goes on the superanuated roll and he wanted to see the church turned over to God before he quit the ministry He is a fine old gentleman and his labor in the Masters vineyard has been
