ot Lincoln county For Opunty Judge John Sam Owsley Jr For Jailer ROBERT H COFFEY For Magistrate JAMES MKECHNIE THIS sermon Is shorter than the text but is delivered with no less earnest rFness The text is taken from the cd columns of that excellent dome eratic paper the Anderson News published at Lawrenceburg by Hon J R Paxton and a syndicate of other sterl- Ing democrats of that place The News saysLocal pride in politics as in everything else is a good thing and shoo Id be pushed along It is the custom In many of Kentucky to see that the home man gets a big vote in his county no matter what his politics an The News hopes that amid the stirring t times in local and national the people of Anderson will not forget that have just the same as a home pisman running for Congressa man treats Anderson like it was hIs home county and toward whom man of the best people of Anderson feel as CongrestCfor reelection has in many way already demonstrated his devotion to the Interests of Anderson county and even if the whole people of this count were not vitally Interested in his reelection would still owe him a debt of gratitude as would demand of them a loyal and disinterested support in the election that will come oft Nov 3rd The story of his labors and success in obtaining a site for a govern ment building in the capital of Ander son after all others therein for 20 years will never be fully told or fully understood except b the fewsingle know what he went throu handed and alone in Washington last winter Added to this and what ho has done in the short time he has been it Congress for a half thousand poor pensioners and claimants of Anderson county is the fact that this county was picked by him out of the 10 that h represents in which to give one of the which he had In the Naval Academy at Annapolis and Ir 4Anderson he has already promised an appointment nave next year The News happens to know that no county in the 10 repre t sented by Mr If elm not even except- Ing Lincoln had had from him or owes f to him onehalf of what Anderson does Even if it were not essential to the t completion of tho government building here that Helm bo returned to Con gress it would still be a matter of re gret and almost humiliation were not the good people of Anderson to turn out on day and see to it that he receives the compliment of the biggest majority of any of any party voted for in this county on that day The News is a democrat and a parti san It does not ask its republican friends to vote against their conviction In the National election but It does believe that home pride In remembering those who remember us should be shown in the only way it can be In this electionIn a rousing big vote for Har vey Helm for Congress The INTERIOR JOURNAL in its last is sue tried to show what a humiliating black page would be written in the democratic record were any factional feeling of revenge or other unworthy sentiment among democrats to result in Kentuckys contributing to or becoming remotely responsible for tho do feat of the poerleasjleader in this glori ous year of democratic hope Every thing we then said about the National ticket was meant to apply to the vote for Harvey Helm the democratic nom inee for reelection to Congress If any outside paper and people can call him a home boy and appeal for a rousing complimentary V9te for him surely the INTERIOR JOURNAL and the democratic voters In Lincoln can Ind no reasonable excuse for not rising and uttering a sincere and oven fervent II Amen And added to the solid phalanx of Lincoln county democrats who should and we believe will support Mr lIelmI on Nov 3rd are hundreds of other home people who know that his name and family name have long been synonymous with good citizenship many of whom have felt his friendship in subI tantlal ways not a few of whom know what ho has done in the short time heI has been in Congress that know of hist record for industry and creditable representation of his people there whoI know that ho has done good turns irrespective of party for many poor pensioners and poorer claimants who know that he is entitled to the endorse ment which his reelection means Surely not a few of these remembering home pride and gratitude will do what Anderson promises to do viz give the home man a rousing complimentary vote that will reflect credit on both our home pride and InteUlgenceI TUB farmers do not realize how severely they are taxed because the collection is not direct but through the tariff For instance his hat Is taxed at 44 cents per pound and CO percent of its value hfs coat is taxed at 33cents per pound and CO per cent of its value his trousers 33 cents per pound and CO per cent of their value his shirt per cent of Its value and his shoes 25 per cent With out this tariff 4 shoes for instance would cost him but 3 and his 1 shirt but 40 cents The consumer always pays tho tax The Democrats prom ise to reduce the tariff to a revenue basis Help with your vote to give them the chance A STRANGE freak of nature has oc curred on a small tract of land near Pine Grove Ky belonging to C C Weymeth When cries were going uj from all over the country for water i pond raised upon the tract and increas ed in size until It covered three acres of soil Experts from a distance were sent for to sink the water but charges of dynamite and all other means have failed while the body of water con tinues to increase Now watch Mr Taft give the credit of this water sup ply to Teddy It would not be more re diculous than some other great things the present administration claims credit for NICHOLAS LONQWORTH in a speech at Rock Island III declared himself in favor of two presidential terms for Taft to be followed by two terms for for Roosevelt Why dont Son inLaw Longworth state openly that Papain Law Teddy favors a constitutional amendment giving the president the right to keep the office in the family 1 This would give Nick an
