ROCKCASTLE COUNTY v I desire to say to you that I am still in the fight for Circuit rFtJudge iu the z8th Judicial District notwithstanding the fact that a few politicians in the district have undertaken to eliminate me from the race I was surprised and shocked to learn that Mr Bethurum had become a candidate against me I was his friend and had done more to make him Commonwealths Attorney than any other man in the district In- the two last years of Mr Sharps term he did not attend my courts and I appointed Mr Bethurum to act as Commonwealths Attorney protem- at all my courts and thereby gave him a cbance to become acquainted with the people as well as to make some money 1 did every thing in my power to advance him politically and when Sharp resigned and the i Governor was about to appoint Walter Flipoin and Mr fiethurum being in Somerset called me over the phone at Mt Vernon where I was x holding court and said unless adjourned my court went to see the Governor in person he Bethurum wasgomg to fail in securing the appointment I adjourned my court went and saw the Governor who was about to appoint Flippin and I convinced him that he should appoint BStlmrum and he did so and then and there signedr the commission and I carried it to Mr Bethurum and made him a happy man I helped to put Mr Bethurum into a position of power and in flu ence wherebv he was the better enabled to support himself and family v and to contribute to the relief of others He was until recently a cat d date to succeed himself as Commonwealths Attorney an office that pays more with less work than the Judgeship He had no opposition and would have had none I had done himnor his friends no wrong 4Ihave been a sober honest and efficient Circuit Judge had fewer cases reversed by the Court of Appeal than any other Jt dge before me Mr Bethurum knew I desired to succeed myself and it louts to me like his candidacy for Circuit Judge is unwarranted and that notwithstand fYv ing what I have done for him his purpose is to feed myself and family on stones I do not believe the people will stand for such ingratitude I shall have more to say later Yours truly M L JARVIS s6 Route I wonder why he- dontadvocate it in his letters Hat Ha he seems to think I have an ax to grind but my dear sir I warantydeedthis route is established The reason I have bad anything to say on this subject was that it seemed so absurd for any one to make a fight against his best interests and that of the community in which he myQuailwagon on this route because I have seen hmso often come in bushes until after the fbod and then came out and wrote the thing up and has been here ever since I dont think he dies Iever never saw a dead one and never heard ofone getting licked If the editor m1kesI a mistake people say he be hung but if a doctor makes a mistake he buries them and folks dasent say nothing because doctors can read and write Latin Andwhen the editor makes a mis take there is a law suit and a big tuss but if the doctor makes one there is a funeral cut flowers and perfect silence A doctor can use a word a mile long without him or any body knowing what he means but if the editor uses one he spells the doctor goes to see another trmans wile he charges for thevisit but if the editor goes he gets a charge of buckshot When an ed itor gets drunk it is a plain case of too
