usual this yearS with the young men about seemfici to be proven this week when the call was made for a crdwd from here to attendee opening hop at Tatham Springs which occurred on Tuesday night The hop at Tatham every spring has been cORsidered one- Ot the big society events and it has been the custom of the Springfield young man with a best girl and some without one to take it in This year how ever it is different as a young man sadly remarked not that the alluring waltz or the quiet stroll under the shaded bowers at Tatham have lost their charm njor have the girls grown any less fascinating but the fact is there are few young fellows about town who can stand the financial strain of buggy hire board bills and other expenses incidental to v trip to the Tatham hop At least that is what they think andnpt even the sight of isliirg0nirnber of young couples from Lebanon and other towns passing tthrough here to take M the event could tempt thel Springfield dude to open his heart The hopnotwIthstand ing however was I understand quite a success there being aI good crowd of people on hand from Harrodsburg Danville and Lawrenceburg and neighboring places ApviCE An exchange GOOD the following excellent licn1bletofellows who stand in front of the postoffice to show their shape and those who stund sneaking near the church door oc school House door to sort o catch a glimpse or catch on as you start fqr home are not the ones you should marry They Will do for you to ruin yourself with or split your reputation on but boys who have the stuff in them that make moral lovers and deserving husbands dont do things that way Ifyou have no higher aim than rubbing hair oil marks from the best dress you wear or doing double work in after years for your board be scarce with out door waiters The young man who catches his girl out of doors generallY leaves her there when he is through with his little game The young man who ex pects to have a home always goes in the house and does the manly sensible thing and you will be better off to remember THE FARMER I not I ROBBING the poor honest farmer has been catching it again and that a tobacco ware house at Louisville has been convicted robbing him in the broad open light of day by fraud in the handling of his tobacco It is no wonder that the farmer complains of being abused for now it develops that he has just cause to kick The tobacco raiser has for some time had a sus picion that he was being system atically but perhaps legitimate ly robbed by the warehousemen but to have the fact openly re vealed that at least one ware house has been caught in the farmje1sa sad aid discouraging blow The farmers should take heart liowever for the members of this firm Wave been severely dealt with by the other ware- housemen who compose the Tobacco Exchange and they will not be allowed toeS do business aixy more in Louisville at least i rNTEIlTAINMEKTS Among the L entertainment to be given soon is one now being prepared by some of the members of the Presbyterian church It will be given on the night of the 25th pst at Sty Dominic Hall and th procesds go to the benefit of t t the church Tha entertainment will consist of a refined little comedy whoso characters are said to be excellent In con nection with the comedy there will also be a negro minstrel itstc in which quite a large num ber of wall known business men about town vill take part Re henrsals have been going on for some time and the production will bo an excellent one no doubtSFRUIT A fortune is I MORE some good man with enterprise enough to start a firstclass fruit farm in this county It is surprising for a county so well adapted to fruit growing that so little attention is patti to that branch of agriculture here There is always a good local demand in Springfield for fruits in easqn and the mer chants make a good thing of it by ordering fruits from Louisville to supply the local demand- A good fruit farm near town would pay well from the start if properly conducted For moro then a hundred years the Shaken h aro been studying tho reme dial properties of plants They have tnudo many discoveries but their great cst achievement wan mad crop of the weed this year He also said that the result will be that I n Lt year every fellow who has afoot of ground will put it in tobacco and the largest crop in the history of the state will be raised and poor quality and low prices is sure to follow and that sonic of the growers will hit the ceiling Harrodsburg Democrat ttI- t is generally believed that calf prices Will be higher than usual
