case in which some local interest was felt on account of the part taken in it by Mr fc 0 McChord of this place who represented Miss Lizzie HInes has been decided again The dicision this time is from the U S Court of Appeals andj affirms the opinion of the lower court which was to the effect that the famous document which turned up so mysteriously and which named as beneficiaries Miss Hines and the Throckmor tons was not the last will and testament of the late Joseph Holt Mr McChord who asI attorney for Miss Ilines together with the attorneys for the iThroclcmortons prosecuted the suit through one court effected a compromise for Miss Hines after the dicision of the lower court The other parties de cided however to take an api peal witlrtberesultrot receiving another defeat The termina tion of the case proves that Mr McChord did the proper thing tI Of1theclient a very handsome sum on the compromise as her claim ini the case BOYS IN CAMP Quite a THEI of men went from here Sunday on the excursion to Lex ibgton to visit the encampment of the Kentucky volunteers The principal interest to those went from here of course was to see the Washington county boys who had enlisted With rom pany K of the first regiment Thertf were twenty boys to go from h re who succeeded in landing at the Lexington camp ana itho most of them so their friends from here say appear to be pleased with the soldier life Three of the dissatisfied ones came home with the crowd Sun day night The physical examinations takeS plucp this week and it is possible that others of the number will be thrown out and be given a chance to return The boys say that camp life ap peared pretty rough at first but they thought they would soon get used to it The food is wholesome and plentiful and the quarters at tile encampment have been made fairly comfortable Will Reed has been made first lieutenant of the company and is well pleased with his job The boys say they have no idea frtien they will be moved to the front Iii but some are beginning to be lieve as did Admiral Scliley that the inaction will kill them JOT OVEIiqROWDEDLatOrd thorO1ItI to threatening to overcrowd the ranks which one was led to be number of small houses and cottages have been finished and are in the course of erection this spring and several new handsome dwellings will be built during the summer Hon John W Lewis has purchased the lotE at the corner of Main and Cross streets and will begin very soon the construction of a fine brick and stone residence Mr John Lily Barber is having plans made for a handsome residence roI1cent1J ters Mr W T McElroy who townwilljsoon hand1someI joining the house he now Occupies These are indications that people have good faithin Springfield as a town that is rapidly coming to the front IMPROVEMENTS Speaking of J building up the own it is a silldencesadds to the beauty of the place and makes the town looK home like and pleasant but tIle thing that adds more to the dance jJ ment of a place as a business point is the building of manufac turing concerns Springfield has only a very few manufacturing enterprises and it should have more It would be a good point for the1 location of smafl manufacturing t enterprises of various kinds The thing isto invite capital here and that is best done by advertising the advan ijages of the place and offering inducements to concerns seeking a location As was suggested in this column several weeks goJcommercial club would do some good for the town in this way and we believe it would boa popular thing if the local busi ness men will just
