ROUTE SIX MILES LOIG UlltoJ How the Road Is Being Trestle 2r100 Feet Long Electricity urhlshfcs the Motive Jower Sev enteeri Station on the Route Visitors to the Worlds Fair next yjr may take a car on the Intramural railroad at any of the entrances or at anyone of thfe 17 stations distributed at Intervals along the route and ride EX miles malting an entire circuit of the grounds A general view of all the big exhibit palaces can be obtained from the windows and ope may ride to within easy walking distance of any important building The construction of the Intramural is being pushed rapidly toward com pletion Five of the 12 miles of track to bo laM are completed and need only the electrical equipment to be ready for operation Double tracks iwill be laml the entire length of tte road The maximum grade of the Intrar mural is 3 per cent and the maximum curvature 20 degrees except the loop curves at the terminals which have a radius of 75 feet Three hundred melt are constructing the trestles grading and laying the tracks The road is perfectly graded throughout except forI a short distance in the western part of the grounds Work is being pushed In the trestle which will carry the road down Gbv ernment Hill close to the eastern fence This trestle is the best engl neering feat on the lfne of the road It will be 2100 feet long and will be built ion piling of heavy double deck struc tares 30 feet high A truss bridge which will carry the road over the Worlds Fair terminal surface tracks is progressing rapidly This bridge Ties a length of 112 feet consistipg of two 5fcfoot spans The Intramural tracks will be used for transporting building material and exhibits during the preexposltion perIod The tracks throughout are standard gauge 4ftct 8 inches which Is the gauge of both the Intra mural and steam railway equipment The construction of the entire line will ber heavy enough to run the largest switch engine over it without danger Railroad cars will be handled in the tracks even after the wires for the Intramural road ore in place Installation of the trolley poles Is progressing as rapidlYf as the tick are laid The poles are 30 feet llone and of white pine They set sixvfeet In the ground so that the trolley win wilt be 18 feet above the top pf the rails TJho poles are planted between the idouble tracks and the wires wit be supported on brackets attached to thorn as in boulevard trolley con structlonl 4Iejuiptnenlfor the Intramural is now tiding mfide at the St Louis car shops There wilt be 17 trains each consisting df two motor cats and a trailer A fey dump car used by the street railways of the city has been run dn to a fiat car on whch rails ave jieenjaid This is done by running a 4t cat close to an embankment the eXact height of the car On the embankment a spur of the street railway tnjcksris laid with a trolley wire extending a carJtllength beyond It The spjir and the rails on the fiat car make jlerfect C9nnectloh enabling the electrlci car to be installed with ease dssafety To the fiat car has been coupled a locomotive As the car ls drawn slowly overt the system the cinders are distributed along the tracks where they are afterwards hey sled It Is estimated that 10 Is saved on each carload of cinders dumped or about 260l In all It takes about 15 minutes to distribute a carload by this method where by hOld way It took tour hours
