ways been regarded with great from an esthetic point of view Ijut it is within a comparatively re tent period that its importance itl the matter of health has boon recog nixed its external configuration goes far to make or mar beauty of feature and considered from the point of view of health its internal conforma tion is of even more significance The inside of the nose is divided into two compaitments by a thin plate of bone and cartilage called the septum The outer wall ot each of these cavities has three project fug ledges formed of curved plates of bone covered with a loose mem brane containing a great number of bloodvessels Opening into the nasal cavity on each side arc sever al hollow spaces in the bones of the face all lined with mucous mem grant air The nerves of smell arc located in the mucous membrane which lines the nostrils and when inflam mation of the membrane occurs as in a Cold in the head this scncc is more or less destroyed for the time being The most important function of the nose is that of a breathing or gan The curved plates of bone Serve to increase the surfacecover ed with mucous membrane so that the air in passing over it is warmed and moistened and so rendered fit to enter the bronchial tubes and lungs It is also filtered and freed from dust and from the many dis casegcrms which it carries The dust and microbes are caught on the moist surface and are carried back to the entrance of the notrils in a current caused by the constant downward movement microscopic air is neither warmed nor purified and on entering the bron chlal tubes it causes congestion This m turn lessens the resisting power which all mucous membranes possess against the action of dis easegerms Catarrhal inflammations dipther ia tuberculosis and other respira tory diseases are much more likely to attack those who through habit or necessity breath largely through mouthObstruction of one nostril such as when the septum projects to one side or when there are tumors called polypi or other swellings of the mucous membrane puts too much work on the free nostril Its membrane becomes catarrh results This obstruction may be only temporary und may right itself but when it is perman nent it is necessary to remove it by as a measure of protec lion to the general health Nothing in the way of a Cough is quite so annoying as a tickling teas wheezing bronchial cough The relief comes perhaps from a prescription known to Druggists cv as Lr Shoops Cough Rem edy And besides it is so thoroughly harmless that mothers give it with perfect safety even to the youngest babes The tender leaves of a simple mountain shrub give to Dr Shoops Cough Remedy its remarkable curs effect A few days test will tell Sold by all dealers A new type of coffee roaster is unwilling to go to its school You can tell whether a is walking with God by whether folks like to walk with him Few things are more foolish than praying for a high task while neg lecting a lowly one People who blame Iroyidencc for their crops are usually reticent as to their sowing The best arguments against the devil is the one that eats into the profits of his business Most of the burdens for Gaudalupe New Mexico 22 miles southwest of Santa Rosa the county scat The county is building a new 15000 stone court house This county lays a little rolling every way you it and you seem to be in the lowest ground where you stand The best product is the emigrant crop with some of the citizens who call themselves locaters and they lay for a tenderfoot 1 have been in the territory two months and have spent a great deal of time from place to another in vestigating lands climate etc At Melrose Roosevelt county I met our Bro Givan our pastor four years ago I never expected to sec him again He seems well and is doing good work at Melrose and vicinity building a new Methodist church there I also met our own county man Rev Willis Smith and heard him preach he delivering two good Presbyterian sermons His delivery reminds me of some of his brother Sam who I remember hear ing in political speeches when I was a boy The citizens speak very highly of both I promised so many to write them my opinion about this country that I take this method of expressing my views and observations There is but one farmer in ten miles of here He is making a good living and so might others The settlers all seem to want to be together and have got all the good land settled cast of Pecos river so the next crop of im igrants will have to come further west or settle in the hills The greatest drawback of water which lies deep is not very good It is called jip water it is all right for irrigation and can be used as stock water The land is sandy and the sand blows a good deal on windy days The tight land is all right for dry farming and also for irrigation The farmer we have grows corn makes his own bacon raises vegetables of all kinds and the largest pumpkins I ever saw kaffir corn milo maize and has a fine young orchard trees four years old and are so neat and smooth that they look like they had been greas ed Poultry does well JSgg U vC bccu iw cowta a u Hens bring from 60 to 75 cents
