Gocbel supporter Mr Chinn has no use for him Time court should attend to Mr Chinn Neither Dent ocrats nor Republicans want a man to handle their finances who disposes of the peoples money to suit speech for guherna toiial honors Mr Yerkes the Republi can Bean Urummol makes some queer statements He is very willing to lay time massage of the Goebel Law to the Democrats but seems not at all says At the Dennison Hotel the colored walters who are from Kentucky are not proud of Qov Taylor They say he is not a sureeLough Kentuckian much less a Governor Some days ago Taylor left the Dennison and it U reported he and Finley anti tint other fugitives triit justice are now keeping bachelors hall in a North Deleware House They do their own cooking washing and ironing according to re lrts cooking or not but it is certain limit lie and Finleylivn in time house and no servants are About From this account it appears that Taylors position as star stump speaker in the Republican ticket has few emol uments attached lies neither living nasy nor getting his pork chops greasy iw time song goes When he travels he confesses he is frightened nigh unto death for fear tho Democrats will wreck his train and when hes at home in Indianapolis he suffers from a depleted exchequer Its painfullyup to novo Mount to pass around time hat and set em up OUR Republican friends are weeping amid walling and gnashing their teeth A sensation has jinst been sprung among them Rumor hath It that this mighty Platttbe backbone and sinew of the G O P whose gold bags have been largely responsible for Republican uuc cue in late years is deaf to the remon tratices of Hanna McKinley it Co and has made a bargain with Croker to throw New York to Bryan in exchange for the election of his protege WelL to the Governorship It is wellknown that the administration was opposed to Mr OdeHrs nomination and pleaded with Platt not to insist upon It but what does the mighty Boss do but nap hlsiingers In their the Pall Mall Gazette Nightly does he dream dreams and see visions ofa double crown and the Enclieh Ron and time American eagle clasped In fond em brace A veritable wolf in sheeps clothing is our mighty ruler and all he is waiting for is the Ides of November when he thinks his election being se cured he can afford to play hands across the sea openly express his sym pathy for Briton against the Boer and come in for a slice of pie in the partition of China But ho reckons without his host theres many a slip tween the cup and the lip so just keep your britches on Mac and its a chew of tobacco to a jug of buttermilk that after the election youll look like thirty cents As a spectacular exhibit Teddy Roosevelt was A decided success when he first returned from Cuba with his San Juan laurels fresh upon his brow We sven admired him when armed with the courage of his convictions he at tacked the administrations policy of handling and feeding our soldiers He something new then and like the true heroworshipers we are we approved of his courage anti manhood and forgetful of party differences join ed in the throng that cheered him Again we gave him our plaudits when he took a fall out of Hanna and secured this second place on the Republican ticket thinking surely at last here is an opponent in whom there is no guile But alas we were deceived we now discover that Teddy is no better than the rest and that a Republican can no more change his politics than n leo pard can his spots For no sooner does he take the presidential stump titan the Republican black in his hide begins to show and from his lips comes such a flow and torrent of abuse of Bryan and Bryanism as never before emanated from tho mouth of mortal man From one end of the country to the other does he caper attired in his cowbov costume and his Comanche manners declaring to the people that unless they vote for him a purgatory to which Dantes Inferno was a summer resort awaits them Tis queer how a little brief the cold deal right along Chairman Heinley when asked if Taylor was to be ui ed during the entire campaign re plied Mr Taylor is not making speeches under the auspices of our committee but is doing so on his own hook Our committee has nothing whatever to do with his engagements It is very evident that the Hoosier Re publican are crowing woefully tired of Taylor lie is plainly a bas been When be job since even his sideshow attractions are exhausted Now instead of being sought he is seeking Hes looking for a job The dispatch goes on to say Taylor is getting appointments to speak through personal solicitation Poverty is gnawing at his door and the exGovern or dont want to starve Really his po fiition is not an enviable one he is reo minced to time alternative of hustling for a livingor starvingand his geographical location may be defined by theeloquent description of being situated between the devil and the deep blue sea It was reported some time ago that Mr Taylor hail accepted a life insurance agency but It looks like that dont pay We shall next probably hear of him joining a band of negro minstrels as a specialist his performance being a heartrending rendition of the ballad I have seen better days Truly the way or the transgressor is bard WHAT we most need in these dog days to pull us out of the rut of political corruption and sordid personal am bition and what is necessary to put us back on the right track is in plain terms a man This very common word ties a number of applications Lots of us are masculine but wo are not all men It requires more titan a Nowhere has he succeeded in arousing any particular enthusiasm and at Hopkinsvillo even a brass band was unable to drum up an audience much exceeding in numbers the proverbial corporals guard A man must have a poor cause indeed when it becomes necessary to hire a band to do his blowing for him Wo pity Mr YerkeF indeed we do Ho Is being made nothing more than a cats paw by his brother Republicans and it was hardly fair in them to draw him from Ins luxurious office down into the mire of stumping the State III a dishonored cause Ills race for Governor will prove a true mirage and he is just as near the gubernatorial chair today as hewill ever be A GUISES in our government Is near at band An aspect of affaire which for years Juts been looming on our countrys political harizonbas begun to take form and shape and is rapidly be coming a deadly menace to tho perpe tuity of our national institutions This clond on the sky as our future has been discernable for years though at first hardly larger than n mere speck it has steadily increased with time and at present its proportions are alarming Lincoln that wisest of Republicans and whose politics were as different from McKInleys as day is from night foresaw this threatening shadow when he prophecied that a day wouldcome when the money power would control all interests through tho aid of bought legislation But even Lincoln farBen ing as he was never grasped the actual level to which free government has sunk under the influence of corrupt administration When Cuba and the Philippines came under our sway little did the Democrats of the country imagine that a provincial tributary subject to Republican caprice was to be moulded out of these islands Where our flag goes our constitution should follows and were justice done these islanders would be given a government as free as ours was in its in cipiency But instead it seems they are to be made our slaves and kept in subjection by forco and garrisons of soldiers are quartered among them to carry out McKinleys will The alleged object of this ovorsteping of constitu tional rights is to protect American interests but its real cause is to assist those in high places to enrich them selves through legalized theft What would the Father of his Country say could he behold the land he and his contemporeries mado tree by their shed blood because the lrey of bounty seekers How long shall this state of affairs continue shaU it last forever The answer of the people to this question will be written in the polls of November and as Elijah of old proclaimed that there were yet total reduction on water because of rates and discount of 7000 during the period of five years to present con sumers The schedule for water offered is very low and probably more liberal than the rates as a whole offered to any other city of like size and conditions It puts the water within the reach of everybody Heretofore the first opening whether on the inside or outside ofa dwelling house has been 1200 the proposed rate in all houses of four rooms or less is 600 and for five rooms or more 800 per annum and for these rates the consumer may have as many openings in his house he desires and hot and cold wuter without additional charge except that an additional charge is made of 500 for each water closet and bath tub Similar reductions are made to all stores banks offices saloons livery stables and other consumers for instancesaloons are reduced from 2500 to 2000 the rate for stores for sprinkling and one set bowl is reduced from 1500 to 1000 Reference is made to the published schedule of rates iu the REGISTER and Climax These reductions put water with in reach of everybody and a person can have water for all domes tic purposesat a very low price In a residence of four rooms or less water for domesticlise with any number of openings desired can be had for less than Ii cents per day and in residences of five or more for less than two cents per day Total reduction offered for the five years on basis of present consumers and at present rates c To private consumers on gas J To private consumers on waterI 700000 To saving to In and gas to city building8 160000 Total saving In rive years to city and private consumersSI000OW- This makes a saving ton the city of Richmond and present consum ers of more than enough to pay for the public lighting of the city for three years on the rates offered by the five year Iud The books of the Company show that the Company has never made operating expanses wild interest on its investment Tho present management hopes under the op eration of this bid to enlarge and extend its business and for the past six months it has determined to reduce rates and been giving the matter careful attention with the view of doing the best thing possible for the citizens of Rich mondIt take at least CO arc lamps to light the streets of Richmond and at 70 each this would cost 420000 per year or considerably more than gas light Besides the reduction iu water and gas to private consumers the Water Light Cos bid to public light to the city is several hundred dollars per year cheaper than the Electric offer and it proposes to light the city every cloudy nightThe Valley View Bane Afthi In my article last week in answer to the Argents of Valley View the editor says I failed to touch the point It is perfectly clear to me at any rate that some point otherwise this weeks issue of the V V A would not have forced out nearly a column of matter trying to its dance cause Convince a man against bis will Hesor the same still I struck the verypoint involved In positivelythattion that the wives and daughters of V V were only fit to associate with questionable characters I repeat I had nothln in word ormindas regards their chastityand I hale a perfect right to know what I did eay Go read my article again What I have said about dances was the influence exam pie and the sin involved and nothing more I always have and always ex pect to denounce sin wherever 1 find it and in whatever form it comes I cant sugarcoat the ungodly practices of this world Then you do not take sue with me on the dance Possibly yuurfiassist in getting up the dance Why dui you parade the dance and give it BO much advertising in your paper Pus sibly they paid you for it Then you say I am needing a few wore benefits along the line of information stated it Justus I was informed that the dance did not pay out the expense overrun the profits Throe 30 refer to came from the cakes cream and etc which was a clear cumeIformed Theo you say that ninetynine ValleyViewIf so I pity the people of Valley View but numbers do nut prove anything on this line Because their idea of the byIgomurals Again numbers do nut prove all questions because they are contrary to Uods teachings Noah and his family only were saved out of a wurld of un godly people Lot and daughters only were saved put of wicked Sodom and Gomorrah Elijahoutwitted the 450 false prophets of Baal and slew them at the brook Kiximn Gideon took a band tel of men and conquered a city One godly man that uses his influence against all ungodliness is worth more thepeopleofKentucky accepteda mistake because I was sent there 4 months ago by the chairman of the district board and have been only acting meetPrigtion was not even raised as to pastor The small amount paid was paid me by the above boardand your brother Inlaw knows the church has never taken any action on this question neither paid anything to me In conclusion I went to Valley View nearly two years in the hope of building upthe Christian and saving sons and daughters from crime misery and woe I have done I did it fearlessly for my Master and almost for nothing The people of Valley View have give me good congregations and I preached for them but have never even received a cent from them I have rebuked their sin on every hand yet this does not keep me froin lovluc their souls I love the soul but hate the sin I hope will never never have another dance nor lend your influence in anyway whatever to one Still your LL KYLE i Hof 4 CENTRAL UNIVERSITY Central University will begin its
