Tho actor comes up to tho scratch liko n hired man, nud puU his arm around the actress as though ho was holding up n tobacco sign, and the actress smllo and smiles a twofor looks as though sho was taking pills. Wo have often scon a cotiplo of lovers in an audience who probably know sciontifio hugging when thoyseolt, look at this stage hugging and curl up their lips with scorn, and look at each other as much as to say, "If it was us on tho stago playing that tceno wo would break tho ntidicnco nil up." Sometimes wo think wo would liko to co on tho stago and givo these actors a few points that would bo of great bencut to them in their busiucss, but if wo would oiler to do so thev would probably impute cAimister motives to us, and hit us with stuficd clubs. It is not that wo would caro for tho hugging, but the advancement of art. Thero aro sorao actresses that tho best huccer in the world could not hug and led that bo had got tho worth of his money, and thero are others that an actor would bo justified in playing without salary and boarding himself, just lor the one hug per evening and Wednesday and Saturday maiinee ihiuwhuj ouo.
