For s'eyeral days past rumors, have been afloat in regard togravo irregularities charged to have been committed by Harry Wisbard of this place, The young man left here last Monday and soon after his departure it was ascertained that the evening before he had given Mr. Tborell. of the Clemens House a check on the Farmer's National Bank, for $0 when he had no money to his credit in that institntion. A little later it wrs discovered that he had obtained $182 on a check presented at the Central National Bank, that Mrs. Fannie Knox's name was signed to the check and that ahe pronounced the check a forgery. Soon after it came to light that he had sold a note for $185 to which Mr. C. II. Tal. bolts' name was attached, to Mr. Eugene Lee. The signature to this note proved to be a forgery. Wishard for some time had been agent for D. H. Baldwin & Co., a piano firm, having branches in both Louisville snd Cincinnati and as such had sold a piano to Louis Faulconer, a colored man of this place. A few days before his depart ure he borrowed the piano from Louis siy-in- g he wished to use it at a musical entertainment and would return it shortly. This pianno he sold to Prof. Grimme, of Bell Seminary and taking his note for $175 in payment, discounted it to Mr. Thomas McRoberts. In the midst of these discoveries Mr. Updyke, representing Baldwin & Co , came here and began to look into what the agent had been doing for the house in this locality. The investigation showed that the firm was minus between $1,100 and $1,200 for pianos furnished to and disposed of by Wishard. Rumors are afloat that he obtained possession of the pianos by fraud, but nothing definite could bs learned up to this timo as to the precise method of the fraud, J if there was any in this regard. A rumor also unauthentic-te- d (Monday) was afloat Sunday and that Wishard had been arrested at Chicago. Great sympathy is felt and expreesed for the young man's family on account of his astonishing conduct. His father is a respected minister of the Presbyterian church, while his mother and sisters are among the worthiest people of the town. 8ince writing the above your correspondent has learned that after some delay the Tborell check was paid by the bank at which it was presented. to-da- DOKPT FORGET -- 1HK DR.
