memorable week for the conspirators A Irand jury was empaneled In Judge Cant111s at Frankfort yesterday npon ffvabloh will devolve the duty of Invcstl Rating the conspiracy that evldcnttv originated In the executive bul1dlnlr i from which all doubt has been removed that the shot that killed Gov Goebel was fired The circumstances and tbe confessions all go to prove that Taylor was not only privy to the diabolical plot of assassination but an active participant in It and we believe tbat before the week U gone he will be 10 dieted and In Jail from which he has too long been allowed to RO free Let us reiterate the facts for the purpose of recalling them to tho minds of those who may have forgotten them On the morning of Jan 30th as Senator Obcbel was about to enter the Cap tot building to attend to the duteelm posed upon him he was fired upon by s t fiend ambushed in the office of the lec rotary of State which Is In the cxecu live build ing and received a wouod from which he died the following Saturday night Instead of using every effort to assist the local authorities 10 apprehending the assassin Taylor the acting governor threw a cordon of bayonets around the building which wae packed with desperate characte brought to Frankfort for the purpose 01 intimidation and assassination and for three days and nights prevented Its search Let it be remembered how quickly the local soldiers were on the ecene Indicating very clearly tbat they were in readiness and that tbe shots were to bo the signal for their appearance In less than 12 hours he had every one of his partisan soldiers at the Capital and virtually put tbo city under martial law adjourned the Legislature to London under the lyloJ assertion that a state of insurrectio existed and then chased the body over the city to prevent It from meeting and doing the work the people had electe It to do He defied the courts suspended the writ of habeas corpus and did other acts of treason and usurpation that put to blush any former usurper Then when sufficient evidence bad been obtained to warrant the arrest of Caleb Powers and Policeman Davis who were in tire executive building he furnished them company of soldiers had them disguised supplied then with pardons and tried to spirit them away to his loyal mountain fastnesses These circumstances form a chain of evidence sufficient to convict and hans Taylor even If his guilt were not 80 fully corroborated by the confessions of Golden Culton and others Call out the soldiers demanded one of the conspirators of him when it had been arranged to murder a sufficient number of the legislators including Goebel U make the body republican My God Taylor exclalmel you fellows mustdc something first I can get the soldiers out quick enough True to his word he did have them there almost the sarat moment that something was done Gov Goebel hardly having been lifted from the stony walk before they were there Since then bo has kept his cowardly carcass holding a basely guilty conS science surrounded by soldiers to guard and protect him from the consequences of his crime- Does an innocent man act as he has Doesnt a guiltless man confident of no wrong doing court instead of avoid a full Investigation Was not Taylor to be the chief beneficiary by the death of Goebel Didnt his enemy think that he hud tobe made away with that day in order to stop the contest for the governorship before a vote could betaken flasut everything that Taylor has done before and since the assassi nation of Gov Goebel proved his gull tiness Every honest man rep or otherwise Is bound to answer bllcanI questions in tho affirmative hat ho is accessory before and the fact The burden of proof Is sow on the accused Let him show his in nocence or let his life pay the forfeit It is well enough to punish Powers and the other accomplices in the most das tardly crime of the century but what will their necks avail if the head and centre of the damnable conspiracy treeTf1E 11ranaverage 1s not too good fbr any questionable act it seems but we are surprised and saddened by the confession of guilt that Charles Flnlcyd flight Indicates Be is said to be in Indianapolis under the protecting wing of a Bheriffjaileriu a State whoso f governor will not recognize a demo trade requisition for him This looks bad for Finloy of whom wo had hoped better things His acts do not show a clear conscience but condemn and damn him in the estimation of those who would fain believe him guiltless Lot him appear for investigation or captured ut all hazards LET no Innocent man suffer shriek the organs of assassination No danger RUlltylman I IT seems to be the finding of the Fay etto grand jury that too many oew woman cooks have spoiled the State- House of absolutely confident that there is Qotblnsr In the finding of the Fayetto rond Jury which to oven a casual obsorvi must have something back of it So far as tno writer who Is one of the six trustees can judge tho buildings are unuoually well constructed With becoming In every day the Negro accom modatlons are a little limited now but the building for them will be ready- a In month The trustees have done aU in their power to hurry up the can tractors except to take the contras from them The latter was consider by the board but such action would have greatly delayed instead of ad vancing the work The Stato is protected by a good bond and 125 a day forfeit which the trustees have held for final adjudication Wo know tbecoo tractors have labored under many d- ficultles in the way of getting material and otherwise and that they are payii more for material now than they iret and have therefore applied tho gold rule to them but tho State will not and shall not lose by It An honorable expert will be bound to pronounce every thing firstclass and feeling confider of this the trustees can afford to sutler for a season the contumely of an Idiot- Ic grand jury some of whom doubtle wouldnt know
