statement Infrequently made by j tbe United States poaVoltiee authorities that Kentucky is far behind the other States in Its application for rural free delivery It Is also a notorious fact I that Lincoln county la bellied tbe other Blue Grass counties In Us applications for title delivery Kentucky and Lincoln county are especially adapted for this service as their pikes are among tho very beat In the world and the postal authorities require good roads before a free deliv ery service will be established on any routeTo secure this service the only re quirement Is to got 100 or more heads of families living on a proposed route to sign a petition asking the postofflce department to grant it After tbo department has granted the service on a particular routs those wbo desire their mall delivered thereon must erect boxes at their front gates those boxes are approved by tbo gov creosol and cost from 81 to 13 The department has approved some 15 dUo ferent boxes and one of thesis must be erected Thus the only cost to persons living on a route will be the tires cost of a box After the service has been put In on a route the postofllce department appoints a carrier This carrier Is paid by the government His duties are to go over tbo routo once every day Sunday excepted deliver all mall to tbo various boxes and take up all letters and papers for mailing and sell stamps and poitofllce money orders An effort has been made to secure signatures to pjlltlons for three or four different routes in this county but U seems that the country people are not taking tbo Interest In tbe matter as they should Not only Is rural free delivery of great convenience and benefit to tbo irmlng community but It Is also tbe greatest stimulus for good roads for wherever a route has been established those who have not its benefits bdt see Its advantages at once get up petitions for a route and begin to Improve tbelr roads so that a route can be established In their neighborhoods- It Is only a question of a few years until the whole country will be a per foot network of free delivery routed The Northern and Western States are sending In petitions to tbe department everyday We Kentuckian help pay for the service wherever established when we pay our taxes Then why should not Lincoln county people geL in tbe procession and get returns for some of her taxes by signing a petition for Rural Free Delivery1 Tbo following tour routes are now proposed lit Route To start from Stanford out Lancaster pike to Rush Branch thence to Hubbble thence to Hedge villa thence to forks
